Incredibly disappointed with the customer service here. Drove here on a Saturday from about 2 hours away only to find horrible conditions. It had snowed the night prior but turned to freezing rain. Someone skiing described it as really wet, all slush and the feeling of "knives hitting your face". Both high speed quad lifts were closed with "minimum chance of opening up", as multiple employees told us. The lift ticket price was still $93, even with half of the mountain closed. First of all, this mountain is not worth $93 even in perfect conditions with the entire mountain open. The only other ticket option is to buy a lower mountain ticket which only would give us access to the bunny hill and one small lift on the far left of the mountain for $54. What a joke. The people selling lift tickets offered a 50% off ticket for our next trip here...and a bad attitude to top it off. The manager said that the skiing conditions were excellent. He also tried to explain that in bad conditions there was a one hour period that if the conditions were horrible enough we could get our money back. But today, because the conditions were "excellent" it was not offered. So it was up to this guy to determine how the conditions are? Seriously? From the looks, it was highly unlikely that this guy has skied recently. Employees and ski instructors were going home because of the conditions. There is no one in your parking lot on a Saturday and there are three adults looking to ski. We would have probably skied 2 hours and then bought lunch and drinks after. Why would we pay $93 when only the lower part of the mountain is open and miserable, horrendous conditions? And you want to offer me 50% off my next trip here? Doubtful there will be good conditions then. We would have happily paid the "lower mountain" ticket price for access to all open lifts. Because guess what, only your lower mountain was open. Your ticket sales people need to learn what customer service is and how to earn lifelong customers. We are young and just starting families and would have been happy to return here. But don't worry, we won't be back. Much better mountains only a short drive further for the...
Read moreThis is a favorite spot for many, so be prepared for sellout crowds. Get your tickets beforehand, and then get there early, before 7:30 AM, for good parking, or else be prepared for a bus ride and a line to get on that bus.
The lift lines have been moderate to long in the afternoon, usually with a tolerable wait, even at times a short wait in the early morning.
They do a great job grooming the trails every day. The staff are everywhere. They are very friendly, making eye contact and smiling, asking you how your day is going, thoughtfully answering questions, etc. There are little Solo stoves out at the base so you can stop by and warm your hands, or you can enter the main lodge and sit by the fire if there is room or just sit at a table. The lift operators are also very helpful and accommodating of many needs, quick to react when there is a need to slow down or stop, which happens about as much as you'd expect. There is always a catchy song playing somewhere before you get on a chair lift, just in time for that song to stick in your head all the way up :)
The Epic Mix app is cool - it counts the trails and lifts you took. I sometimes forget to start it before my first run.
The view of the lake is spectacular and the air is fresh and crisp. There is a good combination of challenging trails, glades, intermediate runs, a longer beginner area that sometimes hosts a lot of wobbly newbies screaming "whoa" right behind you as they slide by with limited control, and 3 magic carpets. If you are new, try to work your way up to the Lime trail off the big magic carpet on South Peak. Otherwise, the mild half pipe at top of the big magic carpet is also good for practicing your turns before you earn your way to the lifts.
The instructors seem very talented and capable as well. The NEHSA adaptive ski program is unbelievably good, with instructors in that program having many years of experience and being able to accommodate so many different needs. Their goal is to help get everyone their share of time in the outdoors - a noble...
Read moreIncluded with our Epic Pass, and being close to home, we figured we’d be skiing here all the time! We figured wrong. We tried twice and left early both times. Sunapee Mtn has potential to be a great mountain, but they’re failing in so many ways, and I don’t think they care. There are enough bodies buying tickets and filling the slopes and lift lines, that they must feel they don’t (financially) need to care and it shows. I heard they have trouble finding workers. That’s only a small part of the problem.
Problems: over crowding. Skiing is dangerous here due to too many varied ability skiers skiing at high (and low) speeds packed in too tightly and not respecting skier rules. The lift lines are horrendous too.
Workers have terrible attitudes here!!!! They are rude when you ask simple questions with answers that are both mean and condescending.
My least favorite part of the mountain is their grooming. They are terrible groomers! Just awful! They leave huge clumps and dangerous ruts. They have constant boiler plate on some areas that could be so improved. The inconsistency is dangerous. They might also groom one tiny strip of a slope and leave the rest natural, but with heavy crud or frozen solid crud. Like they just can’t be bothered to try and make a better ski experience for people.
My hubs is an intermediate. The beginner terrain has usually only one slope open, which he could ski, but it too was crowded and a long walk away from the rest of the area. The small trail between the beginner area and the lodge is hardly ever open, so you end up having to make that long walk in both directions.
I’m a lifelong skier and can ski anything. Apart from the beautiful view you see from the top of the mountain, I’ve seen no other redeeming qualities to this area.
Epic Passes are a great deal financially, but seem to be ruining so many ski areas. We’re not buying them next year. Hopefully Vail will have a wake up call one day and...
