Saw the mountain, but no grandfather. Quite "expensive" but a must see experience that every one needs to have in his belt before check out. To get to the top with all serpentine curves you need to be a pretty good driver. The bridge is the cherry on top. You need though to be able to count to 40 ...because thats the max cap. of people thats allowed on the bridge at the same time. Dont miss the Forest Gump curve. A spectacular view on the top overlooking the mountains, rivers, lakes and tourists. And yes, it is commercialist, but no McDonalds ...yet. Oh, I almost forgot. You'll get a map and a CD where a voice (that could perhaps be the grandfather?) who tells you everything you need and dont need to know as you slowly drive up the mountain. If you find a camera there, its mine! Dropped it while shaking on the bridge... learn from that folks! BTW this is a good place to bring your...

  • DO NOT BUY THE TICKETS ONLINE *

Weather in Grandfather mountain changes drastically, i bought the tickets online in advance to skip the lines. I paid $40 for 2 adult tickets, When I arrived, they said top portion of mountain is closed due to inclement weather. Ticket price is reduced to $10 and allowed till the wildlife habitat. I have asked them to cancel my tickets / exchange them with $10 entrance tickets. They didn't agreed for it. Moreover, to cancel the tickets we have to call up their phone number on weekdays only.

Finally, i ended up paying $20 for two tickets and been to the mountain till the wildlife habitat. I feel $20 is...

I’ve been visiting for years, but went the other day with family for the first time since Covid. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because I think it is overpriced. I would go more often if it was more affordable. The mile high swinging bridge is amazing with breathtaking views. I also love the animal habitats. However, if it’s a foggy day or the animals aren’t out - that’s a big price for a ticket in per person (rather than pay by car). The fudge is also a favorite but we didn’t buy any this last time (it was $12 for half a pound, too). If you live in the area or are a student, I highly recommend visiting in April during dollar days....

It is an incredibly beautiful place! And this special because everyone regardless of physical ability can enjoy it. For me, as a liker accustomed to more isolated settings, that was a surprise but to hike to the summits did not disappoint! A semi- technical climb using ladders and cables was a thrill and challenge especially with wet rock and muddy forest floors. All worth it- not the clearest day but the view is spectacular. I hope the mountain survived the landslides and hope to return.
