I haven't been here in 10 years! My 3 children, my wife, and I used to go almost every Sunday to walk the very peaceful trail and occasionally visit the library. My wife's parents eventually joined us and there would be 7 of us walking together down the wooded trail and field where we would see many different types of birds and an occasional bunny or chipmunk, a skunk, racoons, and even seeing a deer at the edge of the field!
After our walk we would take the wooden narrow pedestrian bridge to the playground and the kids would go down the slides, climb the gym, swing on the swings, ( my wife and I too!), and the kids would play in the big sandbox.
In the winter there was a small frozen pond to walk on the ice and kids would sometimes try to play ice hockey on although it was really too small for a hockey rink.
I really miss going there. We usually would go for ice cream cones after before heading home not too far away in our Cumberland neighborhood.
My wife's parents are now deceased and my wife and I are elderly ourselves and I no longer drive, so I have stopped going but I'd like to go and visit the grounds one more time before I pass on....

We had to turn around and leave. The rules clearly state DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON LEASH. but as with so many other places there are usually a bountiful number of totally ignorant, irresponsible, idiots who feel they aren't subject to the rules. AKA Jerks.
If anyone from the land trust reads this please put the following note on your website that "although we have the leash rule posted we do not actually enforced it" That would be just peachy so people will be aware of the total lack of enforcement and not bother traveling 1/2 an hour only to be forced to turn...
Read moreIf you enjoy books, or sprawling grounds and various meandering hiking paths with a haunted past this place is for you! The library is attached to the original monastery and one can't help but feel the past as you walk the corridor on the second floor, usually decorated with art that changes every so often. The library is vast with a lovely array of books for all ages. And if your trip takes you outdoors, I found the hiking trails around the monastery both enchanting and meditative. If you have your littles with you the playground is modern, offering swings, climbing structures, musical play. This place you just have to see...
