Love going here! It's an awesome place to see the pioneering spirit and the ingenuity that we had as a nation and the sheer determination to improve our living standards. The people there were very friendly and answered all our questions. The facility was clean and had tons of interactive displays and showed how the dam was built and what has been done to improve fish passage over and down the dam as well all the other benefits the dam brings. Not to mention seeing the fish ladders was an awesome treat for the kids. Seeing the salmon and lamprey eels and other fish species using the ladder was very cool. Seeing the turbines and hearing truth of the water passing through them was spectacular. Really a great experience and one that I...

Cool place would 100% recommend. This place deserves more visitors!

When we arrived we felt like we were in the wrong place, only a security guard in sight. We went through the gate to the visitor center and had the best time. Jon, a very friendly tour guide, was just about to start his 15:30 tour and we were the only visitors. He told us all about the history and operations of the plant. We could see two of the turbines up close, even at different heights.

There's also a little side building with lots of info about the fish and fishing methods of the native americans. It includes underwater windows so you can see the fish swim through the ladder, we saw...

Beautiful drive out here, and so many options for spots to park and get out to experience the scenic area around the dam. We were lucky enough to be the first group to be allowed on facility-wide tours again after COVID! The tour guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and truly seemed to enjoy what he does for a living. All around 5 stars.

I just wish the tour was longer and had covered more of the dam! Regardless, the exhibits and informational signage/plaquards were more than sufficient in explaining all the details of the inner and outer workings there.

P.S. What was once the longest working escalator west of the Rockies is now the longest...

This is the Washington side of the Bonneville dam and hydro power unit. This is relatively new compared to the Oregon side. Inside there are multiple levels to see. One of the buildings on first floor has educational content and generator viewing area. There is a theatre which play the history when it is open. The ground floor has access to fish ladders. All places have elevator access. There are tours at certain times a day and well worth it. It is about 45 minutes and they take you close to one of the generators to explain its working. Staff are generous and always ready with answers when needed.

Good view of the generators and some really interesting history on the creation of Powerhouse Two and the relocation of the town of North Bonneville. A nice collection of Native American tools, baskets and fishing info. There weren’t many fish in early April but it would be amazing during the Chinook runs alter in the month or in the fall when steelhead are in the fish ladders. Outside there were some beautiful metal sculptures of wish and shore birds, and a huge bald eagle was perched on the building waiting for lunch to swim by!
