This place is an incredible treasure. We are lucky to have this collection of homes and outbuildings from the slavery era still intact. We recently went on a nighttime lantern tour of several buildings at the site and were introduced to what Christmastime for slaves would have been like just before the Civil War. The guides were excellent and the content was appropriate for many ages and levels of understanding and involvement. We need places like this that make us uncomfortable and force us to face our ugly history so we...

Wonderful place! The family and I wanted to see a historic place after visiting for Christmas. After calling a two other locations, to verify they were open, we actually made our way to Stagville. They were not open, however, the maintanence personnel told us about Horton Grove just down the road. No crowd! Just how I like it. We took our time walking a trail and walking between barn and residence(s). A beautiful day to enjoy the outside and learn a bit...

So important for us to learn about American history, even if it hurts. We homeschool our kids, so this was an awesome tool for our social studies/history class. It was surprisingly quiet with only 2-3 other visitors on a Tuesday morning. The audio tour was also great

This collection of sites is a very interesting and sadly thought provoking window in our not so distant past. If you are in the area visit Stagville/Horton Grove. You will walk away with a better understanding of a period of history that cannot be repeated, or forgotten.

Free to visit but donations welcomed. This was part of a larger historical site regarding a tobacco plantation and slavery. Very interesting to learn about those times and their struggles to be freed. I really recommend visiting as it was very interesting.
