This place is absolutely gorgeous, I use to strictly walk/jog when I was there, have a picnic take the dogs there etc - recently got into mountain biking and these trails along along with basically everything else is so incredibly maintained, the views are great, the berms are in incredible condition. Wish the easier trails had a few more jumps in them but it was still a blast either way. The trail all the way down to the flowing creek is so intense, you can look all the way down the side of a mountain basically while you're barreling through the woods. It's an absolute rush. Their visitor center seemed quite small but very nice, I dont know if it was a usual thing or what but they didn't accept cards, so bring cash. I rode 2 hours and basically just grazed the surface of the trails there, next time I go riding I will be bringing swimming trunks and a lunch to cool down and enjoy the view and swimming area. This place is amazing, I highly...

My wife, my dog, and myself have camped in a tent many times at Bandits Roost Campground. We tent camp and the pads are in fantastic condition and large. We have plenty of room for a large tent, a cooking table, and a large canopy. During the Spring and Summer, the trees and undergrowth provide privacy from the other campers. The tent pads are also right on top of the lake. It is a beautiful spot. If you want to camp there in a tent, plan ahead. There are only a small number of sites for tent camping and they are very popular. Showers and bathrooms are within easy walking distance and clean. Kiln dried firewood has been available every time we have visited over the last three years. It burns rather than smoking without any progress toward actual flames. This is the nicest campground we have found in the region, and there are many good ones. Thank you Army Corps...

My boys thought it was cool to drive over the dam. On the other side is a trail if you want to hike. And you can access the lake for kayaks, fishing and swimming. It is big and roomy, plenty of space to do the social distancing that is suggested right now. The water was dirty and the bottom of the lake was grassy but my boys had a good time. We saw a couple families of geese, they came up on the shore where we were to eat. This was the only access point that was open today, probably due to the Governor's...

beautiful lake with views of the mountains in the background. great for kayaking and paddle boarding with some little creek offshoots to explore. we caught some fish here which was fun for the kids. plenty of swim beaches with playgrounds which the kids also enjoyed. impressive dam adds to the interest. three fantastic mountain biking trails around the lake, which you can link and ride together if you have the energy. multiple RV and tent camping locations.

If you want to see a beautiful sunset, without having to go that far from Wilkesboro, this place is the best in the area. I have always loved this place, not only because of what it means to me personally, but because it has beautiful views and many fun things like the playground for the children, hiking, a quiet walk with your family or a bike ride.
