Having visited the area over the years, including doing a few clean sweeps.... I have to say I am very impressed with what Davidson County Park and Recreation has done since acquiring ownership. The parking area is very nice and there are security cameras that monitor the surroundings. A nice gazebo with 2 picnic tables overlook the historic Wilcox bridge. There is a stair case leading to the York Hill Access Area below.... it's a short walk from to access area from there. Davidson County owns the Access Area and does a great job of maintaining it. I met several kayakers and one pontooner. There were several families with small children walking across the bridge. The hidden jewel is the walking trail on the York Hill bluff... most may miss this because it is on right when you first turn in... there is a a good 1.5 miles of trail to walk....95% of it winding on a nice gravel path through the woods. There are several Park benches which to rest and another picnic area with gazebo. The master plan will include a playground, more parking and another stairway so everything ties into a...
Read moreThis is a very nice park. Open and Clean. I do Like that there is Video surveillance Cameras for the parking area. The gravel walking trails are nice. There is room for improvement. Looking at the board at the finished project is exciting. A few things would be nice to add a map of the walking trail and better signs throughout the trail. The Benches are wonderful on the trail. There is a couple of random houses. Not sure if one is vacant or someone is living there right in the middle of the walking path and it leads into the driveway. Very uncomfortable feeling not knowing if we were walking in their yard or part of the parks dept. And when we got to the end of a trail it just ends and says no trespassing, but a trail grassy trail that leads to The Old York Hill sign and the boat access. Other than those few things Which I feel will get upgraded when its all done. Its a very nice park and will keep going and recommend to my friends. Thank You Davidson County for fixing...
Read moreYadkin River Park is one of my favorite local spots. The dog park is especially great — there are separate areas for small dogs and big dogs, so it feels safe and comfortable no matter the size of your pup. My dog loves running around and meeting new friends there.
The playground is another highlight, really well set up for kids of different ages and always buzzing with energy. On top of that, the trails are fantastic for walking or just enjoying a peaceful afternoon outdoors. You get a mix of open space, river views, and shaded paths, which makes it a perfect spot for both short walks and longer hikes.
All in all, it’s a place where you can relax, get some exercise, and enjoy time with both...
