This was the perfect stop on our family road trip! The playground is really fun, and there‘s even a story walk, with little stands spaced apart from one another, each with a page from a children’s picture book. It looks like they must change the book every season, since we went in the fall and the book they chose was The Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert. It’s a very nice park with lots of picnic tables and a pavilion, pretty nice bathrooms for an outdoors space, and a working water bottle station. Also a dog park and bike repair stop with air pump and bike tools. We wanted to take the wooded walking/biking trails if we’d had more time. (Next time!) Apart from the wooded trails, there’s also a short gravel path to the riverside, which has a big walking/biking bridge to cross the river. We had actually parked at the riverside pavilion first to enjoy our picnic dinner, after which we took a walk down by the river. (The riverside path ends in the woods, at a fence marked private property). We had followed Google Maps to get to the riverside, and for some reason it took us a roundabout 4-minute drive to get there, and it took us that way back again to get to the playground. We didn’t realize we could have just walked (or driven) the gravel path between the riverside pavilion and the playground! I’m not sure sure Google Maps didn’t take us that way— the drive is less than a minute, and it’s probably a mere 5-minute walk (or less). The walking/biking path continues over the river and into the town of Spencer. Would love to take advantage of this park if I lived in the area, so we will definitely be back again on a road trip! There weren’t a lot of restaurants nearby, so bring a packed meal or plan on hitting up a bbq joint first for takeout. There’s one four mins south of the park and another one eight mins north of it (if you’re taking the highway). Thank you NC Parks & Rec for providing this little gem right off...
Read moreI love this park, but I have a anxiety disorder so I only come here at night with my family, I come here and walk laps around the playground and picnic area, or laps around the parking lot, but every single time we visit, there is a black car that parks in the parking lot and stares at me, my mom and my sister, it's freaking creepy, they don't have public hours listed so if they are closed when I come here and that person in the car is the owner, look dude, you can't get mad when you don't bother telling people when you close, staring creepily at us and making me have panic attacks is unacceptable, there was a red truck that did it too, but I think they were a couple doing inappropriate things to be honest, which is disgusting because it's a children's place, so be aware of that while visiting, I've seen them a few times and they always seem sweaty and uncomfortable when we drove past them on the way out, either way I don't feel safe coming here because people ruined it by being gross, if that guy in the black car is security, instead of making yourself look like a creep, maybe put up a sign with public hours, instead of watching us (three women) at a dark playground at night, I unfortunately won't be coming back here again, there are better parks that don't have frequent potential creeps watching me walk on the...
Read moreYadkin Park and Playground is a wonderful spot for families! We were pleasantly surprised by how much it offers—three separate playgrounds for different age groups, which made it perfect for our kids. The park is clean and well laid out, with a nice parking lot and bathrooms (a must when you’re out with little ones).
There’s also a dog park, picnic tables for lunch or snacks, and some nature trails to explore. It looks like the trails are still being developed, but it’s already a great place to get outside and walk a bit. We’ll definitely come back again. Highly recommend for a fun,...
