As a mom of a Sailor, this museum was very helpful and enlightening to what goes on in boot camp and a sailor's life. I visited here after my son graduated from boot camp. It would have been nice to know some of this while he was going through his training. He was so limited as to what he could tell me. There were many sleepless nights that I laid awake praying for my boy. Looking at the timeline, I could slightly understand some of his struggles. I feel that it was a very slight glimpse into his world. Despite all that he went through, he came through it with a love for the Navy. And as a Mother I feel that I am looking through a cloudy window hoping to get a glimpse of my boy now and then. He left as a boy but I know that he will grow into a man. It is not easy relinquishing my boy. My prayer is that he will grow into a strong, loyal man who will not lose his faith but rather grow and encourage others. Read moreIt was really just okay. I have been to many military base museums. They are great as they are free and many times have things that children would really enjoy. For being the only basic training naval base I would have expected more. The foundation of the displays were explanatory posters with a few photos. There were some uniforms, a rack layout and a few other items, but not a lot. The strangest part of the museum experience is that about 1/3 of the space is dedicated to a display on tattoos.
