Raccoon Island Miami — Attraction in North Miami

If you go please bring the raccoons fresh water!!

We took our paddle boards from oleta to raccoon island ..it was very crowded with boats battling to see who can pay the loudest obnoxious music which definitely scares all the raccoons away, but it was a really nice spot other than the idiots in huge boats, and after going deep into the wooded area we were able to see one raccoon and brought her water and some nuts and fruit. she were so gentle, thankful and sweet!!!

you could tell she was so deprived of water due to a drought here and being stuck on the island because she drank about 3 bottles of water just by herself. Wish we were able to carry more on our boards and Will next time for sure…We left some piles of almonds in spots and filled as many empty coconut halves we could find with water so they could get some fresh water later as well..

Definitely recommend checking it out before the raccoons are eventually gone because of careless selfish people..if you are an animal lover I’d recommend bringing snacks and water. It’s a shame there are so many trashy boaters competing to play the loudest music and show off on a nature preserve instead of going to the PRESERVE for the actual reason it’s a PRESERVE, but I guess it is south Florida, where the most selfish people flock to from other parts of the world to live or vacation...they can show off on Miami Beach or wherever they came from. no reason to bring it to one of the last small nature preserve spots in south Florida…

Only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is because it will only attract more south...

We had an amazing time visiting Raccoon Island in Miami! The place is truly magical — the raccoons are friendly, curious, and not afraid to approach people. It was an unforgettable experience to interact with them in such a natural setting.

We brought lots of snacks, but what really surprised us was that the raccoons always chose water over food. They were so thirsty that they were even grabbing water bottles out of our hands. It was both heartwarming and a little heartbreaking to see how much they needed fresh water.

So if you go, please do two things: Bring fresh water for the raccoons. It’s the best gift you can give them. Please don’t leave trash behind .Let’s keep this beautiful island clean and safe for...
