Small and quiet on a regular weekend, this beach has an interesting location with the Ameristar Casino building and steel mills to the west and boats in the east. You have to be careful navigating a couple of traffic circles northbound on Cline Avenue and then the stop lights within the casino complex. The Aldis Street is to the south of the beach and you could mistake the guarded and chainlinked parking lot as entrance to the beach. You have to drive just past that to a good sized parking lot ( free) and then walk down a few steps or take the ramp down to the beach. The beach itself is narrow and slightly rocky but the breeze is really something here. The play area looks inviting but was closed till June 9th this year according to the signs, so will have to write that up next time. The bad part was he noise from the mills and the railroads and was it also the Interstate? It was a miracle that you could still hear the water lapping the shore. But it was soothing to just look at the half mile of blue and clouds in the sky. Clean sand and...
Read moreI don't understand all the reviews saying this beach is clean. It is the DIRTIEST beach I have ever been on. Honestly, people that regularly visit this beach should be absolutely ashamed at the condition. I literally watched people on the beach use something and then just toss the trash on the beach. I'm from a different state, and quite frankly I am appalled in general about how much people litter in the general Hammond, IN area. There were food wrappers all over the beach, empty cigarette packages, old discarded towels, pieces of clothing. The one and only sole trash bin on the beach was overflowing with trash. I don't get what is up with this place? I wish the local residents would care and pick up after themselves. The only redeeming part of the beach is the ample and free parking. The beach is very rocky too, which wasn't overly pleasant. I would not return to...
Read moreI spent time of time here growing up. Mom and Dad had a sailboat so we learned how to sail on Lake Michigan. After we had sailed we'd go back to Jeorse Park beach and dive off the boat, swim and snorkel. It's so much nicer now than when I was a kid. Small band shell, a pavillion and bath house with restrooms. Clean too. The day we were there, it was unfortunately only about 15° and windy! Bbrrrr! Good...
