More nostalgic visit than anything. My parents visited in 2000 and this was somewhat disappointing to them. Nonetheless, it was a good 4-hour experience for me.
The grounds opens at 9:30, we arrived at 11am on a Monday. There was ample parking still available but surely it’ll fill up soon because there is only one lot for roughly 100 cars and a few buses. There’s always patrons going and coming so not a big deal. Parking is free.
Upon arrival you’re greeted with an old Dole Plantation sign and old plantation landscaping in the front of the main building. Entry to this part of free. There are 2 sets of restrooms, a cafe, a coffee stand, and plethora of gift options to spend money on.
Tickets kiosk is around the back, where visitors can purchase tickets for 3 excursions and exhibits: the train tour, garden and maze. All are good fun. Must try out the maze if it’s your kind of thing. The garden exhibited local landscaping here, good for picture-taking.
The $39 train tour is $39 pp, a 20 minute ride, 45 minute wait at 11:30am. It gives a ride around the designated property to understand the history but was not worth it. It’s not guided by a live person so no interaction with any locals. Instead, we are guided by speakers that didn’t work or were not well placed. The plantation area is not well-kept, old machinery are on display but it’s sad. They’re rusted and falling apart, trees and shrubs are growing thru them. Felt like a junk yard. Weeds were everywhere and felt abandoned. Would not recommend for return traveling.
There are a couple of food trucks across the main gate so local treats can be enjoyed and there is a stand that sells small pineapples for lower than prices at the grocery stores. Attached pictures of the self-guided botanical garden and...
Read moreThere must be over 500 people across the street riding that train n walking the maze. If they only knew that the real deal is here. For $15 bucks you get a factory tour of the Dole pineapple plant. During the tour they take a pineapple right off the line n pack it in a box for you to take home!! It was still in the field less then an hour ago! I was so thrilled. This tour is what i expected not a train ride. Go into the small building that says farm tours. Look at my pictures. Go in and say hi to Stacie. She cracked open a cocoa pod for us n let us taste it. Then she took us out around back where the trucks pulled up n dumped their load of pineapples into the pineapple wash. From there the pineapples went up a conveyor belt into the building to be sorted n packed. We went into the factory n watched them hand pack the boxes. Stacie was very informative n answered all our questions. Thank you Stacie you made our visit very special. We also got to meet Dan the owner. Nice down to earth people. My friends and i will talk about this trip...
Read moreThe farm/processing tour was awesome! Very educational from when/how many are planted, time it takes to grow, how they know when they are ready to be picked, and so much more knowledge. There was no line it was only $15. You get fresh juice and cut up pineapple at the as well as a whole pineapple to take with you! All the staff/employees were exceptionally kind and helpful. They were very knowledgeable and answered the many questions my father and I had about the process. Definitely preferred this over across the street. The tourist attraction across the road was not bad. However, this tour educated me, which is the point of it. Across the road is more for nicknacks and bobbles tourist stuff like that. I 100% recommend this tour to everyone that has an interest in learning what they do at...
