Hickam Commissary — Attraction in Oʻahu

Always like shopping in this commissary, merchandise are nicely stock up and very well displayed on the shelves. People here are friendlier.

**2 years later, I am adding on to my last review... today, I am giving this place a 2-star. Here are my reasons: I was told that they have recently changed a new store manager. A lot have changed in terms of the shelving arrangements to the new products he/she brought into this store. But why change when ‘nothing is broken’? I saw those expensive new cupcakes, and new off the wall products been introduced into the store, no one has touched them. Eventually, they all have the ‘special offer’ price tags on them. Also, the reshuffling of products on the shelves. We cannot find the products we used to buy anymore. Bean sprouts, doesn’t mean you don’t buy them you should simply removed them totally from the store!? This is Hawaii, people’s taste buds are different. Different states have different ways of managing a store....

It's a good value and its usually not too busy, I definitely prefer the hickam store over the NEX which has essentially the same stuff but avoids the absurd lines at the NEX. I just wish they'd circulate new product into the store. It's the same selection every time, nothing new hardly ever. Also needs a much better gluten free selection.

Update: took a star away for numerous horrible online shopping experiences. The website is terrible. The search option is near worthless. For example, search kiwi...one would expect a fruit to return on the search, nope...Kiwi shoe polish is the only return. They allow the buyer to order food that isn't even in the store (single organic apples, peaches, etc). Often receive no item when a comparable product was requested, for example I asked for a block of cheddar and I received nothing because it's out of stock...I highly doubt that. The site needs a...

Hickam Commisary is very clean and organized. When compared to the Pearl Harbor Commissary, though the Hickam Commissary is smaller and has less stock, there are many benefits to the Hickam Commissary:

1. The prices are clearly displayed for items.
2. Less traffic since it is behind a military gate.
3. Well priced.

There are minor negatives to the Hickam Commissary but are standard for all commissaries such as:

1. Though well priced, there’s always a better price somewhere else for something (produce) so continue to shop around
2. Though tax free, you’re still charged a tax and have to tip the baggers because they work for tips. Potentially offsetting the savings all together.
3. Though located in Hawaii, it’s selection of food is still fairly...
