What a beautiful beach that has incredible views of the airport, Waikiki and Diamond Head in the distance! It was my first time here and I will definitely be back as it's my new favorite local beach. It's located in a security controlled entry point where you have to present your ID and vehicle registration upon entering. There is a concession stand however it's not your typical snack food.... They actually have really well prepared food as well as beer, wine and cocktails. I was really impressed. Additionally, the restrooms are super clean and well stocked (some of the nicest public restrooms I have ever encountered). The day I visited the water was warm and fairly calm as the beaches/coves are somewhat protected. There is a bit of rocky broken down coral that can be a bit harsh on bare feet, so wet shoes would be helpful to avoid this aspect... Otherwise beaches are sandy. If you are an aviation geek and love plane watching, this beach is perfect! You can view all sorts of planes that are on decent for landing at the airport, even military aircraft. This beach gets my best review! Please visit but be respectful as with all beaches and parks you...
Read moreBeautiful views from the beach of Honolulu and Diamond Head. You can watch ships coming in and out of Pearl Harbor and can watch planes land and take off from the airport. The water is a gorgeous variety of blues however it's cloudy from the strong waves churning up the sand. It was basically impossible to get into the water without water shoes because the ground is full of softball sized pieces of broken coral. I tried to get into coves 5, 6, 7, & 8. Eight seemed to be the least rocky of the ones i tried. The sand also can be difficult to walk in as it's got a lot of rock/broken up coral. It's also got a fair amount of trash. If I'd brought a plastic grocery bag with me I'd have been able to fill it up easily. Overall the beach is nice for sitting in the provided chairs and overlooking the water. That's about it...
Read moreNice beach in residential area that is gated, but there is public access available to the beach. You can see so many fighter jets and the warships coming in and out of the harbor as well as the commercial airliners taking off. Diamondhead visible in the distance. The water has some rocks, so water shoes were handy. The sand has tiny bits of coral in it, which stick to you even once you dry and the rest of the sand falls off. I like all the straw umbrellas and chairs provided for use. No showers available to wash off the sand though. And beware of the security lady who tries to bully you off the beach at sunset with all sorts of rules that she exaggerates or makes up to support...
