Pali Golf Course — Attraction in Oʻahu

Not the best municipal golf course on island. This course is situated next to the mountain, so expect a lot of up and down hills, raised greens or elevated tee boxes. Lots of trees, bushes and straight up forest near a lot of the holes to eat up you golf balls. Ball breaks away from the mountain, even if it looks like it won't. The grass on the whole course is usually long, it is located on the rainy side of the island so the grass probably grows fast.

Tee boxes: Most tee boxes have grass, a few are a little bare. The grass look like the typical crab/lawn grass with weeds. When we went, the grass was not very trimmed or neat. Hard to find a good place to tee up.

Fairway: The grass is pretty thick for a fairway and is the same as the tee boxes, crab/lawn grass. Hard to tell the difference between faiway and rough. This course has lots of trees on either side of the fairways and some have forest. No faiway bunkers on this course.

Rough: Same grass as mentioned before. Some places in the rough will be thicker...good luck.

Greens: Holes 1-7 seem to be in bad shape. Looks like weeds are growing in them that are cut down. The greens rass were still longer and played slowed. Holes 8 and on seemed to have been worked on and look and rolled much better. The speed changes and becomes a little faster, but smoother.

Greenside bunkers: The bunkers have a little sand in them, but not a lot. I couldn't take a full splash shot, so we to a chipping swing to get out. The surface has sand, but it is hard under it and it's not deep. Some bunkers are deep in height compared to the greens, most are shallow.

Amenities: -No driving range -There is a small putting green -No restaurant or snack bar

We only come here if we have to, not normally. It's been at least 7 months since we last played here, not much...

Okay a little perspective here. We come from the mainland and come to Hawaii for vacation. I have played the Kaneohe Klipper, Royal Hawaiian and Koolau. Honestly it seems that there are no real well kept golf courses in Oahu. The Klipper is by far the best experience I’ve had, however you have to know someone who can get you on base. If you can get on base that is by far your best option. As far as this course is concerned, if you are from the mainland this would be your worst muni course in your local area. The fairways are brush and full of debris. Absolutely no food or drinks. There is a vending machine. No alcohol allowed on course. When you check in there is a little window like you’re buying a train ticket somewhere no pro shop, kind of looks like there may be some stuff inside but who knows. Tried to check in my party and they made me wait until everybody was there and showed they had clubs. Super weird. If you want to go somewhere if you’re a complete hacker and are looking for ZERO amenities then this is fine. I can’t believe the rates these courses on Oahu charge. This was one of the cheapest but I still left paying $400 for a family of 4. If I paid regular kamaaina rates it may have been more digestible. Just want you to know...

Got out of meetings early and decided to the Pali a try. This course has a lot of potential unfortunately it doesn’t seem the city (muni course) is willing to spend the money.

It is a somewhat easy and straightforward track, where 95% is dead straight which is good for beginners and families. And the views from around the course are amazing, and those that many courses would kill to have. As others have stated the staff is very friendly and welcoming which is always nice.

Now the downside, there are no fairways, it’s like playing in a field that hasn’t been mowed and is being overtaken by weeds. The greens all are damaged in one form or another, and saying they are slow is an understatement. It was early Friday afternoon when I played , and there was a good amount of maintenance personnel I saw, unfortunately I’m not sure what they were doing.

When finished I asked if they were in water restrictions, and was looked at like I was crazy.

I’m disappointed that I had to pay $112 as a non-resident for a course in such poor shape with such potential. Unfortunately I will be avoiding this in future trips till I start to see things change. But if you want a “course” with some good views this...
