This park is a sleeper, you'll probably drive right past it. Totally local park. But the best part is the rock stairs right down into the water. At low tide, step out onto sand, easy entry into the water. In high tide the stairs get you right into 36 inch deep water, perfect for snorkle and fins entry point. I have bad knees, and some beaches have deep sand (like quicksand) and steep entry angles down to the water that make it hard to get in and out without help. If you snorkle, this is a perfect place for easy entry...all along the wall, for about a quarter of a mile off shore is good snorkeling and a lot of fish. Max depth about 10 feet out at reef edge. The reef break keeps out the big fish. No lifeguards, but lots of local folks are around to help. The lights on the basketball court stay on til after 9 pm so it's well lit. Good clean restrooms. 7 Eleven is across the street. One local mom comes occasionally and has a handicapped son who yells alot, but he's harmless. Play area for kids, but not a beach for children. Watch the tide charts and swim snorkle at low tides if you're a beginner. Take a spear gun and a net bag if you want to catch...

Read moreHonest post... this place was great. Location was so convenient to some cool hikes (makaua falls, crouching lion) then of course 7'11 store was just the best for late night cravings and getting extra ice or supplies.
But the bad would have to be how windy it is and the occasional rain. Can be relatively cold so make sure to bring a jacket. If you're gonna do a canopy tent then you should make sure you bring the additional sides of the canopy tent to block the wind, I'm telling you right now it can really be frustrating with the high winds.
Lastly, the homeless people were pretty respectful and we didn't have any problems, but I'd definitely suggest not leaving anything out over night you wouldn't be upset about losing. Shoes, food, clothes, etc. Definitely keep it in your tents if possible.
It was a great experience and the kids had so much fun with all that space and the...
