When talking about which playground to go to with my kids we don't usually use the official name, we clarify like "the one with the big slide" or "the one with the spinning spider web". This one is " the one with a lot of monkey bars". It also has a log roller which is pretty unique. I love that it's surrounded by the forest and we saw a huge hawk last time we were there. If I had to say anything negative it would be in this wood surrounding next to the park there is an open area that goes towards a pretty steep drop off into a small river. For elementary size kids that's fine, but with a rascally toddler it was not ideal.

It looks like a good park for sports and playgrounds. There is a 1-mile asphalt walking and biking path, which just goes around the fields, and is all in the open sun. With the sun reflecting off the pavement, it's pretty hot on a warm day. There is a smaller path near the playground that has better scenery and some shade, but it's not very long. There are shade pavilions for gatherings, or just to eat lunch.

I brought one of our dogs (Suzie) down to get groomed because she desperately needed it and has never been to a groomer before. When I picked her up she was beautiful. I didn't think they would be able to clean her up the way they did. But, wow that's all I got to say. . I will be back. Thank all of you for everything you helped me with getting her in there.

I do not particularly enjoy this park. It is on a flood plain so its clear why the city won't dump too much of it's time and energy into it's facilities. It's a good place for runners, as there is a paved loop, and probably a good place for football players as there is a field. Other than that, the playgrounds are lack luster and the bathrooms are gross very often. No hiking trails, basic pavilions. It's fine if you want to walk your dog or have a graduation party, I wouldn't use it for much else. O'Fallon has much better...

The only down side to Dames is I feel like I see more mosquitoes than I do at other area parks. Maybe it's because it floods occasionally. We like to take bikes to the park and ride around the back circle. Our kids also enjoy both playground sets. I wish the restrooms stayed open year-round, but that's a city of O'Fallon thing to winterize and close them. We go to the park to play in cold months if it's nice enough and sometimes the kids need restrooms. Overall, we do visit Dames frequently. It's...
