A small but beautiful park on mosquito lagoon built around a large shell indian mound and home of the family who saved it. There's a short walk circumnavigating the park and small gift shop with interactive learning display and interesting movie. Wonderful vistas of the lagoon with birds and butterflies about. Might could spot a dolphin or manatee. Makes for a peaceful respite and is also a great place for pictures. Fun Florida on a tankful sort of thing to do.
Our indigenous people wintered here for thousands of years before their decimation as evidenced by the large Indian mounds or middens they left behind.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhile it may seem like just another river-side park it is anything but. A smooth paved walking path winds through Florida's most native greenery. Along the path are many historical sites are peserved within Educational plaques; artistic imagery depicting scenes from the time paired with widely informative summaries. While I will admit I am unsure of the hours or season, there is a period preserved home turned museum/souvenir shop nestled atop the highest hill. Open or closed, the beautiful wrap around porches provide guests with extremely comfortable rocking chairs; perfect for taking in the view. I highly recommend visiting this little park if you find yourself in the area. Carry and launch your kayak, enjoy the quarter-mile circular trail, fish from the floating dock, or hang out on the river beach. There's a ton of...

It's a small park setting with a half mile sidewalk around the property. It is an easy walk with waysides along the way. The park is open sunrise to sunset according to the sign posted at the entrance. When we were at the Visitor Center, we were told there was a locked gate. We took a chance and went there anyway. Good thing, because there is no gate. The park has bathrooms at the parking lot, and there is no lighting at night, so make sure you go...
