I wondered how the trail tunneled under the freeway. I imagined a small rocky path, narrow with low ceiling. Instead I found a huge modern tunnel system capable of handling a large flash flood. A tunnel which was very easy to walk through, surprisingly free of graffiti and only small amounts of water. There was no trash or debris and no fowl human waste odors. Could be that because this place is dirrectly underneath the DOT northbound scale house that it's protected somewhat from the derelict hoi poloi? Read moreThis spot is the end of Section C of the PCT in California and the start of Section D. We didn’t have a lot of time but wanted to see and hike a little bit of this trail. From here we headed south instead of north. It was our first time on the trail and it was super hot. Of course, we went there at peak sun (noon). Not the best time but that was the only time we had that worked. The mile that we hiked was quiet and beautiful. If you go, go early. Park at the Camp Cajon marker with the flag then walk down to the trail and go south. Or if you want to start section D, go under the freeway...
