So disappointed, not in the park, but in myself. We came mainly for the museum, but I didn't pay enough attention to see that it is only open Memorial Day through Labor Day. We were two weeks too late. I haven't been here since a school field trip. I can't recall which grade, but sometime between 30 and 40 years ago. Still, we made the most of it. The River Trail is beautiful. We didn't see the big snake in the tree, but we did see several smaller ones, along with a lot of other small wildlife (including some BIG spiders). There are a lot of flowers and mushrooms, and very scenic views. Love the historical markers, and appreciate all the informational signage. A beautiful park to visit, but if you want to see the inside of the museum, don't make the same mistake I did. Be sure to visit when it's open, lol!

This is a very small State Park in while it does have some nice pads and picnic areas the most interesting attraction to us is the copper culture Museum that helped us learn about a civilization in the area from over 7,500 years ago. The man working in the museum was very knowledgeable and friendly. He has been working with the project for over 40 years and gave our kids some souvenir ancient pieces of copper. The museum is small but has some Hands-On exhibits and lots of photographs. There is also Ascent of short videos to learn about the ancient culture.

Great little state park for a quick stop with some smaller trails and a really nice museum with plenty to see. They also have a nice picnic area with running water and grills and restrooms with running water which can be hard to find at a lot of parks. As for the museum they talk about how the people of the area were the first in the area to work with making tools and using copper as well as there trade routes and how it was distributed in the US.
