There is actually two routes you can take to get to this cave. The primary way which I never even knew about is taking the trail from the Rappelling & Climbing area’s parking lot (trailhead at rear of lot, do not cross the road) and the other way which I discovered is from Airplane Rock’s trailhead which is a faster easier route because it’s a little closer and mostly all downhill (at least getting there is). If you haven’t been here before and don’t know exactly where you’re going then stick to the first option or else you’re just gonna get lost and might not find it. After you find Chapel cave(aka 21 horse cave) stay in the gorge and follow the path around the hillside and keep going until you come across another large “cave”(overhang really) with a high waterfall. If you’re still feeling adventurous and have some daylight left then climb up the left side(as your looking at it) of the falls and keep going until you reach another smaller but large cave/overhang which is perfect for a picnic or just escaping the sun. This area really doesn’t get that much traffic compared to all the other POI’s around. The first time I was here we didn’t come across a single soul but now this whole area is becoming a giant tourist trap so now it’s not uncommon to stumble across...
Read moreThis is an easy hike, and it is not difficult to find the cave. How to get to the cave: Park in the Chapel Cave parking lot and walk into the woods. Follow the orange blaze trail. You will cross the stream three times. Right after the 3rd stream crossing you’ll see a white sign with an arrow indicating to go straight ahead for Chapel Cave. Follow the white blazes until you see a split rail fence. Stay on the white blaze trail until you get to the left end of the split rail fence. The longer you stay on the main trail, the easier it is to get up to the fence. Follow the split rail fence to the cave, and a little bit farther to...
Read moreFun hike out to the multiple caves. Lots of creek crossings and mud, but we hiked in early spring. If it has rained your boots will get wet/muddy. Mostly flat trail out to the 21 Horse Cave. About a half mile in the trail spits and you can go up the hills to another cave and the trail then leads back to the 21 Horse Cave. Then you can go onto the Twin Falls. Beautiful trails, well-marked with blue and red flashes. This trail is out and back. Nice thing is that you are closed enough to other trails like Conkles Hollow and Old Mans Cave that you can get multiple hikes in if that is what you are looking for. Our group had a lot of fun on this...
