Read moreWOW! I don't think you'll find a collection like this anywhere else in the country, except maybe the Smithsonian museum in Washington DC. I was absolutely blown away by the amount of displays they have here covering weapons, equipment, uniforms and more from the revolutionary war up to Afghanistan. They have both American items and items that were captured from our various enemies through the centuries. If you've ever watched a war movie and seen different weapons and things they were using and wondered what they look like in real life, they probably have it here. Everything is displayed very elegantly. They have tanks, trucks, helicopters, airplanes, howitzers, cannons and more outside. If you are at all interested in any era of warfare the United States has been involved in. You will find plenty of things of interest at this museum. I can't over exaggerate how excellent this collection is! The volunteers that run this place were very knowledgeable and friendly. One gentleman walked me through almost a whole display and we discussed a variety of things. To top all this off, this...
Read moreAll I can say about this museum is WOW. Looks small on the outside, but don't let that fool you. This is a gem of a museum and should most definitely be included in your travel plans when visiting OKC.
There is an extensive collection of firearms dating back to the revolutionary war to the present ... really impressive what they've been able to document and showcase here. Also, I was absolutely blown away that there is an entire collection of Hitler's personal belongings here. I mean, wow, I've never seen anything like that, even in larger WWII museums. The man who greeted us at the museum had some really great tidbits of information about pretty much every exhibit so it was great overhearing his commentary throughout the visit.
My husband and I spent about 2.5 hours here just looking through all the pictures and reading the history of this amazing infantry division. Well worth the short drive outside of the city center. Hard to believe this museum is free, yet houses some of the most interesting wartime history I've see for a while....
