At gate, attendant was very friendly. This is a COE campground. We had water/ elec. Dump station, showers near us were locked but just up the hill the bath house was very clean & hot showers. Kinda empty campground which surprised us. Overall had a good one night stay. Sites were nice but not very level but management. They have picnic area, day use, boat ramp.

Went up Rowland Creek. Heyburn Lake is very muddy and full of debris (trees, branches) but is a clean lake. If that makes any sense. Nice sandy beaches that gradually deepen. Great lake for kayaking and fishing. Bird watching, picnicking. Have enjoyed many day outings at Heyburn.

It's small but still beautiful, especially at sunset. The lake was calm and the park was empty when we arrived. There are restrooms and a handful of picinic/rv sites at the area under the overlook. I do have to say it kind of creeped us out being there alone.

We stayed here on for 1 night on April 9 while traveling to Phoenix from St. Louis. The 2 campgrounds are owned by the Army Corp of Engineers which operates the dam. We stayed in the primitive tent section which offered beautiful lakeside camp sites with tables. There is also a boat launch at this campground but it did not impact our stay. The facilities were limited to a vault toilet and about 12 -15 camp sites. It was very windy the night we stayed there and also rained for 2 hours during the night. Campers with tents had major problems due to the hard rain and wind. By morning, none of the tents were still standing and everyone was in their vehicles. We were happy to be in a van where the weather was not a problem.

Only about 1/3 of the primitive sites were occupied despite it being a Friday night in April. The main campground with services for RV’s was about 80% full but did not meet our needs as well since all of the lakeside sites were occupied. Although we did not use the other campground facilities about 1 mile away, I assume the showers would be available to all campground guests and not just those in the RV section.

All of the roads in were paved so it made the drive from I-44 toll road much more pleasant. Although we read a few reviews that local kids used this campground to party, this was not the case when we stayed there. It was perfectly quiet. We would stay there again and would rate it 5 stars based on the beautiful camp sites right...

The people who clean the park and the bathrooms do such an excellent job. The place is nice and clean. I have NO PROBLEM taking a shower here, unlike at other rv parks. Because it is cleaned and disinfected as well. The trash is always picked up too. The reason I cannot give it 5 stars is the lake. It is do dirty looking and gross. I worry the water is not safe to swim in. Also the swim beach has no buoys and floater things that mark off swimming area in the water. Its no fault of the folks who work and volunteer there, they do great. But who monitors whether the water is safe to swim in ??? As for camping its great. Nice campsites. Hookups good working order. Dump station. Water etc Nice playground for kids. Boat dock. Fishing. Worth checking out for sure. I camp here all the time and just wish I could swim here. Just not worth the risk. I...
