As we made our way through the grissom we saw many aeronautical delights mainly relating to the cold war. The planes do soar, or did rather before they were removed from active duty and retired to the display. Many planes are from the 50s and 60s, there is a public bathroom available as well as senior and military discount. There was a wright brothers propeller but I forgot to take a picture. The planes seemed like they were smiling but I think that was just the MiG. You are allowed to sit in an f4 phantom cockpit and it is very tiny, also a chopper and there's also a tower outside to climb and enjoy the view. Our host was kind and hospitable, giving us detailed information about any questions we had. There are big ones and small ones but all have an interesting history and the information is displayed by each plane to give a nice taste of history. You can pack a picnic lunch to enjoy but there is only light refreshments available for sale, but many other merchandise items in the gift shop. The Hoosier breeze will surround your senses as you enjoy a day of aeronautical delights here at...
Read moreUsually when we come through Grissom, the museum has been closed. We finally caught them open. They were closed due to the pandemic. It is a very interesting place to visit. I had the chance to view actual letters, sent from troops during the world war II! It was something personal to see! It also gives you a true feeling of what the troops were living, while away from their families. It was a very eye opening experience! Christmas lights were being set up by each plane outside. Each set of lights were in the shape of the plane they were by! Wish I had the time to go back and see them lit up! They are also in the process of getting a simulator set up for the public to use!! Many things going on and updates being worked on, at the museum! Definitely a learning experience. Can't wait to take my kids! For adults it was 7$ admission. I don't recall the admission price for children, but it was cheaper. We spent about an hour and a half at the museum! If you get a chance, go check out a piece of our...
Read moreIt is great for anyone who wants to read about aircraft history. I found it rather cool. It is pretty small and the one attendee definitely managed to stand in one spot the entire time so don't expect much as far as tours go (It is more of a DIY experience). Inside and outside are both rather small, but for a quick and cheap day trip it's worthwhile. I took young children with me and they thought it was very exciting. Outside you can climb the control tower even though it isn't posted anywhere that you can (we missed out because we didn't realize until we had left the museum to the parking area that you could climb it). You literally just walk in, go out to the outside viewing area, walk that circle until you've seen it all (doesn't take long with kids), and then go in to see what's inside. Very small, but inside you can sit in and crawl through a plane. I can't stress the amount of information available if you have time to read it! Well worth the cheap...
