One of our rest stop breaks. This rest stop has a person greeting you, and asking if there is any particular place we need more information on while visiting Texas. We did pick up a new Texas roadmap, just because! The bathrooms were clean, and we'll stocked. In the guest lobby there are hundreds of brochures, and information sheets for just about anyplace one would want to visit. The grounds are well maintained, and clean. There are a lot of covered picnic tables, which are also very well maintained, and tables are clean. On this day;Thursday there is plenty of open tables available for use. Inside the guest is an entry way to an outside walkway which would take you on a walk into the wildlife area, which was under renovation. We were told one walking the above ground walkway; one could may see wild pigs, various birds, and even cottonmouth snakes, which I would not care to spend time with any such reptiles. I have the India-ana Jones concept" I am fearful of snakes, no matter what kind. Back inside the guest area, there are big, extra big, and small chairs to relax and view the wild life area from the protection of big glass panels. This is an older rest stop, with some of the doors, and walls needing updating, but beautiful in its own way! It's a nice stop after crossing all those bridges, and swamp's across Louisiana! Try...

We came here for a restroom break and they were clean. So since we re still in covid era we re required to wear a mask upon entrance. Free road maps and tourist brochures and info. Lady at counter was very friendly and knowledgeable on the different highways etc. Upon walking the grounds u can spot some wild life in the blue swamp area. They have minnows AMD dragon flies AMD alligator turtles and red ear slider turtles and hog and beaver. Upon my short visit a fellow tourist pointed out a wolf spider dwelling below the walk way ramps. They have plaques u can read from and children can photo with a monument dedicated to the wild life. It was a turtle u can stand by and snap photo opportunities with. I recommend you come here for families trip or...

Absolutely outstanding facility. Fastidiously clean on the inside. Large modern restrooms. Kind, courteous, and knowledgeable staff. Really decent vending machine prices. Cool giant Texas Star photo op out front. Really neat elevated walkway to view flora and fauna, with benches and informational stops along the way. Mosquitoes were not bad today at all, September 4, 2024, but last time I came through I was nearly eaten alive just trying to take a selfie with the Big Star, so beware in season.

I've been 400,000 miles in the past 4 years. Of all the rest stops I have visited, this is...

The state information is really well organized by region, so if you know where you are going, there is tons of stuff. The also have nice maps, both of the area, and the whole state. Great scenic overlook of the Blue Elbow swamp, the the Parks Dept, has built an extremely cool informative walkway for quite a way out into the swamp/marsh area. There are little signs with information about the various flora and fauna you might see. We were lucky and caught a glimpse of an alligator, several birds, opossum, small fish, and turtle. Worth the extra few minutes to walk out to the end for sure!

There is lots of parking for both trucks and cars. The bathrooms were just remodeled so they are nice and clean. They have several big pet walking areas. There are several nice big sculptures, which was cool. And the best part is the swamp walk! There is a raised walkway and a quarter mile long through the swamp worth lots of information about the history of the area. And inside the visitor center there are LOTS of information magazines and pamphlets for all over the state, it is separated and organized by region. All and it was a very nice place to stop.
