If you are in Willamette Valley, you must visit this winery. Of all of the ones we visited, this winery had the best, most consistent, selection of wines. The tasting is for a flight of 5 wines for $40 and Phil is the best wine steward of all - he knows the winery and is very capable of answering all your questions. We started with a Blanc de Blanc made in the champagne style, followed by a 2023 Estate Chardonnay, 2022 Estate Gamay, a 2021 Duke's Pinot Noir, and a 2021 Estate Pinot Noir. The Estate chardonnay was crisp and light, wonderful for a hot summer day or paired with just about any light fish/meat. The gamay would go well with Thanksgiving turkey, per Phil and the pinot noir would be wonderful with just about anything - salmon, chicken, pork, even a steak for the 2021 vintage.
Phil gave us a bonus - comparing the 2019 and 2021 Estate Pinot Noir and explained the differences in taste due to weather conditions in each year.
Unlike some of the other tastings, Phil gave a more generous pour and gave us plenty of time to enjoy each round before he came out with the next one. We did not feel rushed at all, and the quality of the wines made us more curious about what they do to distinguish their offerings from others, thus the questions.
The gamay was a wonderful surprise as it is not a typical grape for the area. We decided to take a couple of bottles with us for later. The Estate pinot noir is well balanced and not too acidic or tannic and will cellar well, very drinkable now too.
The real bonus was the view. The tasting room looks westward and the scenery was lush and green with beautiful rolling hills of trees and farmland. The patio was surrounded by nice grasses and other plantings.
I learned a lot and was not afraid to ask questions. We decided to join the wine club - the only one we felt worth joining during our visit. Thank you to Phil and to Eminent Domaine for a wonderful afternoon and...
Read moreThe story of the commencement of this winery is what got me in the front door. A true tale of turning lemons into lemonade. I must admit after my first experience here, I have I kept coming back season after season because it hits all of the marks: setting, hospitality and of course, their wines.
The architecture of the tasting room is beautiful and contemporary complemented with Edison light bulbs throughout. But the room is not where I linger, it is their backyard. Eminent Domaine is located on top of the Ribbon Ridge AVA so you get to experience miles upon miles of panoramic views (all the way to the coastal mountain range). My favorite is when the fog is so low it dances on top of the douglas fir forest.
The staff is fantastic and friendly! I am always greeted with a warm smile and many options as to how I would like to taste that day. I can always enjoy a flight or a glass of wine and my picnic lunch. Each time I visit, the staff teaches me something new about their wines or the area in general.
Their Chardonnay never seems to stay on the shelf! Hot commodity! My favorite Pinot is their Hyland. It is so complex and savory - perfect for these crisp Fall nights. But, I must admit, my favorite from their line up is their newly released Rosè. DELISH! It is not sweet, it is dry, it reminds me of apricots and peaches.
Anyway, i could go on and on! Just Go! And be sure to give Benny, the King Charles and Miss Frankie, the mystery pooch a scratch on the belly. You will not be...
Read moreWe had such a great time at the wine tasting room! Everything was spot on—the view, the people, the interiors, and of course, the wine. I made a reservation a couple of days ahead for 3 PM, so we could spend the morning drinking coffee at Cannon Beach and be on time for wine tasting. We arrived just in time. The tasting cost $40 per person, which includes five flights of wine. For us, it was one Rosé, one Chardonnay, and three Pinot Noirs. I particularly enjoyed the Chardonnay, while Vlad was captivated by the Pinot Noir, especially the 2020 vintage. That year, Oregon experienced wildfires, and you can taste a hint of that season in the wine we drank. It was a scorching 100 degrees, perfect weather for drinking Chardonnay. We ended up taking a bottle with us and also grabbed a charcuterie box they offered there. Honestly, even the view and the excellent service were worth that money. It felt like discovering a hidden gem. We drove 2-3 miles on a gravel road and even started to worry that we were going the wrong way, but then it was there—the beautiful scene opened up before our eyes. I am especially thankful to Phil. He was such a great source of information, answering all of my husband Vlad’s questions with friendliness and openness. I would also recommend this place for small events of 10-12 people. They have a beautiful permanent tent outside with lots of seating areas and a great view. Oh, what...
