I am going to preface this review by saying NEVER judge a book by its cover. We ended up at Killdeer after visiting a winery and it was the best experience! Now, if you're looking for someplace fancy-this ain't it. Some may be discouraged by this, especially considering some of these wineries have some amazing architecture... I digress... this distillery is on Colin's property, and we literally walked in to NOONE being in there! Lucky for us, we got the VIP treatment! We sat outside, fed the chickens, watched the goats and listened to all the amazing stories Colin's had to share, from his distilling process to the Bobcats taking his goats. We really felt like close friends! It was nice to actually have someone TALK to you outside of "what can I get you?". While the winery we visited prior to coming here was beautiful, the atmosphere was extremely pretentious. Colin's place was the opposite, and we loved being able to support his mission while there! :) The gin flight was fabulous (and I am not a liquor lady....) the smells were fragrant and perfume-y. My husband was very impressed. But, it was the espresso liquor that had me! It was absolutely hands down one of the best liquors I have ever had. It could be used in coffee, desserts or even as an aperitif. The reviews don't lie... 5 stars! I am huge on reviews, but also huge on people being kind, welcoming and great hosts! I will definitely go back to visit! It was really nice to sit and taste and learn more about his process! Thank you, Colin for a...
Read moreI am remiss for not submitting a review sooner. We've been stopping here for a year or two- typically after visiting our favorite nearby vineyard. The first time we stopped our son was visiting from New York and driving our car so when he saw their sign we ended up following the signs and the gravel road to their place. Our tasting there was so much fun and we bought several bottles. Since then we've stopped with my brother and his wife when they were visiting from CO and my wife and I have stopped now several times. We stopped a few days ago after getting emails about some new releases. The place is beautiful [there are usually cats and dogs and other critters there], Colin is fun to work with [and I've emailed his wife Kate several times] and somehow I feel good about helping- in a very small way- their business venture! I highly recommend you take a drive and visit Killdeer Distilling. You might want to call or email them first to make sure someone is there. The photo I've submitted is taken from our...
Read moreMy brother recently took a road trip to the West Coast and was guided by some locals to Killdeer Distilling for a tasting. He was very pleased with the gin and because he knew I have a fondness for it since my very first mixed drink was a Tom Collins, he bought a bottle as a gift for me. Happy day! I am in my 70's and have traveled the contiguous U.S., Canada and multiple foreign countries overseas and I have never had so exquisite a gin. My thanks to Colin, the Distiller, for creating so sublime a liquor. I would readily put it up in a competition against any liquor in a taste test. It is exquisitely aromatic and smooth. FIVE STARS * . Thank you Colin, for...
