This is a great area to explore. It’s quite muddy right now and needs more trail cleanup to occur in the coming weeks. You’ll find a roaring river and a network of trails through various moss laden forests. It’s only open to horses and bikes after May 15th due to the rainy season. The bridges and signage could use an update. Being so close to Portland, it seems to be heavily used near the road which would benefit from some litter removal. Leftovers from late night redneckery and unsanctioned parking lot fires seem common here. I’ll have to go back later to explore more trails or plan a canoe trip. I would think that there would be ample rainbow trout in this environment. Thankfully this area has been set aside because it’s truly a beautiful spot with only a few blemishes from human activity.

Such an incredible place to ride our horses! Little to no gravel or rocks, the parts that do have rocks aren’t bad so barefoot is easy and it isn’t hard on tender footed horses. Good hills and flat spots, gorgeous views and well kept trails. Huckleberry trail is open year round, the others in the same spot don’t open until May 15th I think but we will be back to explore them when they open. Can’t wait to go back.

This was a fun more challenging trail than me or my horse has done before ... Lots of elevation changes, a cool bridge with a 90°turn and a step up to get on it. Pretty sure was made for smaller mounts at 17hh I was almost knocked off 2 times from low branches but we managed to squeeze through.. we did 7.25 miles and 1100ft of elevation changes .... Was great fun

I only stopped in with father to scout it out for a future hike.

The whole Mololla River Recreation Area is gorgeous.

The trail is open to horses and bikes.

The parking lot is large enough to unload a large horse trailer.

We talked with some horse rider who said the trail is great for rides. My daughter-in-law said it her favorite place to ride.

Bear have been spotted in the area and there...
