I was so excited to hear about Orem having it's own dog park since we usually have to drive all the way to Bicentennial in south Provo, but MAN this place is a disappointment. Any reviewer who gives this park more than one star has clearly never stepped foot in any other dog park because I can't say enough bad things about this place. First of all, the steep gravel incline--I have witnessed several incidents where both humans and dogs have taken tumbles down that hill. That liability alone makes me wonder how this park was ever approved by the city. But then there's the fact that it's only half finished, there's one tiny tree that provides a minuscule amount of shade, and one bench.... ONE. BENCH. What city planner, in their right mind, thinks that one bench is sufficient for the dozens of people who bring their dogs to the park at any given time? Also, there area SO MANY nice parks in Orem. Why couldn't they put a dog park in the actual city of Orem instead of hiding it up in an obscure part of Provo Canyon? I was also infuriated to learn that the city apparently spent $175,000 on building this park. Can we get an audit of these expenses because there's no way one bench, a fence, and a fire hydrant cost that much money. I have so many questions. Anyway, I could go on and on but I'll just leave it at this: Orem, PLEASE give us a usable dog park in a convenient location, where you don't have to bring your own chair and umbrella and hiking boots to access it, or constantly worry about your dog getting bitten by a snake. That doesn't seem like too...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a decent sized park, about 1/3 of an acre for the big dog side. Small dog side is about 8,000 sq feet (my estimate, probably wrong). There is a person/dog water fountain, about 6 benches, and double gate system that is on the base of a moderate slope.
No grass, minimal trees, and you have to go at noon to get shade on the benches (on the big dog side). The dog area is not a manicured park, it is indicative of real Utah landscape, high desert with some rocks.
Truthfully it was perfect for our needs, a large caged in area that smells different from home, our 2 labs ran...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was so excited to hear that Orem was getting a dog park. When I got there for the first time, my disappointment was palpable. The combination of the steep incline of the hill and sharp, rocky ground covering is such a terrible combination. My dogs refused to run and spent the entire time gingerly walking around, trying not to hurt themselves. It's such a shame because there was so much potential with this park. The location is quiet, it's sectioned off for big dogs and small dogs, there's a nice drinking fountain for you and the dogs; but the terrible...
