Attempted to purchase two bottles of wine to drink on the patio here this last weekend with a group of 15 women from Chicago. While there, the owner came out and asked what brought us in. When we said we were there for a bachelorette weekend, he asked to talk to the matron of honor who organized our outing. After removing her from the group, he stood over her, in her personal space, and told her she should have “known better” than to bring our group in, and that his staff would “do their best” to serve us. Honestly, we were trying to buy bottles of wine, not do a tasting. He talked at her for a good three minutes before the rest of us realized he was berating her. Needless to say, we left. There were four other people in the tasting room at the time, and his establishment was not busy.
As someone who works in customer service, this treatment was shocking, to say the least. Especially since this was my second time at this winery (went there last summer when it was much more crowded, and it wasn’t bad). But I would recommend you spend your money at a business that respects its customers, and not at a business who’s owner made my friend...
Read moreDomaine Berrien is what I think a wine tasting room should be: A modest building in the midst of acres of vineyards. I think their white wines are among the best in the area. My last visit however was not a good one. When you drive far out into the country and you're willing pay a little extra for your bottle of wine, you're doing it for the pleasant experience you hope to have. But on this visit the server all but ignored my friend and I, choosing instead to engage in lengthy conversations with other customers, leaving our glasses empty for long periods of time and barely speaking to us. I wanted to leave but I was only halfway through the flight. I finally had to call out across the room to get some service. My friend and I are somewhat old and unglamorous, and we felt even more so after our visit. I can get wine that is just as good or better for less money at my local wine store in Chicago and the next time I'm in southwest Michigan I'll have to ask myself...
Read moreCame here for a bachelorette party and we were very respectful wanting to by a couple bottle of wine and relax outside. Before we knew it the owner Wally told us we weren’t welcome and needed reservations even though there were only a few people at the winery. He told us we should of known better and done our research because we weren’t allowed with a bus. He went as far as to pull aside the maid of honor and scold her for coming to the winery. He was very rude and at one point said “you must be from Illinois”. He was very confrontational and very aggressive towards the entire group. There are so many other wineries and places to see other then this establishment. He does not deserve the money people give his winery and I am very disappointed that we were willing to spend over $200 and he had no regard at all for...
