Old Depot Museum — Attraction in Ottawa

We truly enjoyed our stop at this museum on the Prairie Spirit State Park trailhead. What made our visit so great was our visit with Mike, the museum guide. He was so anxious to talk to us about the exhibits and point out things we wouldn't want to miss. It is two-stories, that include a large model train town on the first floor, and an old one-room classroom, Victorian living room, kitchen, ice cream parlor, and a general store on the second floor. I came to the museum without knowing anything about it besides they have a new NPS passport stamp. I'm a total museum nerd and I was blown away by the high quality of this small town museum. Multiple exhibits on Native Americans of Kansas, staged rooms from different time periods, and an interactive full-room model train. The museum covered several eras and notable events in the county, describing with an unflinching tone both the good and the bad. I'll definitely be back to attend special events. My husband and I stopped here on our Sunday afternoon drive and were pleasantly surprised by this little gem in Ottawa. We loved this museum and would recommend this as a great little “Day Trip” / “Sunday Drive” excursion.
