For a small park, Heritage Park packs a big punch. We kayak here and the boat ramp is small, but that’s not usually a problem because it’s not typically crowded. Some of the lake is very shallow, but that makes for great wildlife watching. Turtles and herons are always fun to spot.

If you’re not on the water, there is still a lot to do at the park. The trail around the lake is nice and there are benches around it if you need a break. The playground is nice and there’s a new workout area.

There are a good number of picnic tables around. Some are a little weathered, but serve their purpose. There are also ample shade trees for a blanket picnic.

Bikes are available for rent through the Johnson County Parks Dept. There are also several charging stations for electric cars.

The restrooms are basic, but clean. Much nicer than some at...

Review for the dog park:

This place is great. It's all well fenced in, there's tons of space for the dogs to run, the pond is super fun for them, the sidewalks and paths are in great condition and always well kept, there are plenty of poop bags and trash cans around, and (unrelated to the park) everyone is just super nice there. I've honestly never had a negative experience with anyone there, and you interact with lots of people and dogs. I guess that's just what you get with dog people!

The only suggestion I would have is getting a beach-style sprayer on the side of the bathrooms to spray the dogs down a little bit with. More than once I've gone home with super muddy dogs in my car after playing...

We had a nice visit over July 4th. The park is open and we reserved shelter 1 which had clean tables and a couple of grills for cooking. Shelter 1 is close to the lake and the playground, although during these times it's not recommended to use the playground equipment. There's plenty of greenspace as well for throwing frisbees and playing other games. Nearby some kids were flying kites. The park had a walking path around the lake that is about 2 miles around. I've seen people fishing and in canoes in the lake so there's lots for people to do. As part of the Heritage Park complex they have a golf course, softball fields, frisbee golf, and...
