🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Historic Gem Reborn – Green River Distilling Co. Visiting Green River Distilling Co. in Owensboro, Kentucky, felt like stepping into a living piece of bourbon history. Established in 1885 by J.W. McCulloch, it's the 10th oldest licensed distillery in Kentucky, proudly bearing DSP-KY-10 . The distillery's rich legacy includes being the most advertised whiskey in the world before Prohibition, with the catchy slogan "The Whiskey Without Regrets" . After a devastating fire in 1918 and years of dormancy, the distillery has been meticulously restored, resuming production in 2016 . Today, it stands as a testament to resilience, blending historical charm with modern craftsmanship. The tour was both informative and intimate, offering insights into the distillation process and the storied past of the Green River brand. Tasting their signature bourbons, especially the 5-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon, was a highlight—each sip a testament to their dedication to quality and tradition . While the distillery itself is modest in size, the experience is enriched by the warmth and knowledge of the staff. The guided tours provide insightful glimpses into the distillation process and the history behind each product. It's a personal touch that larger distilleries often lack. Located near the scenic Ohio River, the distillery's setting adds to its charm, offering a peaceful retreat with picturesque views. Though it may not boast the grandeur of some of Kentucky's larger distilleries, Green River's authenticity and dedication to craft make it a worthwhile stop for any bourbon enthusiast. Final Thoughts Green River Distilling Co. may be small, but it leaves a lasting impression. Its rich history, unique offerings, and personalized experience make it a hidden gem on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Whether you're a seasoned bourbon aficionado or a curious traveler, this distillery offers a refreshing and heartfelt glimpse into Kentucky's bourbon heritage.

This was great tour! We had never done any distillery tour, so I'm glad we chose this one to be our first one. The bar has been set high! Our tour guide was awesome too. Unfortunately I can't remember his name to save my life (he used to work at Disney. If Green River replies with his name, I'll update this review to include it), but he was great. Super friendly and knowledgeable. I really had no idea what it took to make Bourbon before this tour, but now I have a new found appreciation for it. I highly recommend this tour if you're out in Western Kentucky. And even if you're not, make this the reason to go. *Edit* Green River Distillery has replied with our tour guide's name. His name is Grant. I'm not sure if you can request specific people to be your guide, but if you can, request him. He was amazing.

We were originally scheduled to visit on a Friday, but were held up in transit due to the weather. I called and the staff made it very easy to reschedule. We arrived for our rescheduled tour on Saturday and were greeted and welcomed immediately. After a short wait, we embarked on an intimate tour of the grounds and operation with a very knowledgeable guide. There’s a ton of history, as this is the 10th oldest distillery in Kentucky. The grounds and facilities were beautiful, and it was great to hear about the campus and how it had evolved over the decades. At the end of the tour, we were treated to a tasting and a few small complimentary souvenirs. We loved it the whole experience, and recommend it hands-down!

Green River Distilling is a fairly new company on the Bourbon Trail with a long history of Bourbon making on this site. After several failed ventures with Bourbon Lease #10, this company is poised to have success with its wonderful Kentucky Bourbon. We were given a fantastic tour by our guide, Day, who knows this business inside out. After the tour, which was very reasonably priced, we sampled the liquid gold and ended up buying a bottle of the Yellow Banks Bourbon and getting a T-Shirt in the store. This is the most western distillery on Kentucky's Bourbon Trail and it is a must see! We can't wait to go back!

We really enjoyed our tour of Green River. The grounds are beautiful and the visitor center design really captures the esthetic of the founder and previous owners of the bourbon company. Our tour guide, Hannah, made the experience even better. After showing us how the bourbon is made start to finish we got to partake in a tasting of all the bourbons (and whiskey) that Green River offers. Honestly, it is some of the best bourbon I’ve tasted. Our party really enjoyed that add on part of the tour. You must come and visit the most western part of the Bourbon Trail! It’ll be a tour “without regrets”.

My wife and I have toured many distilleries in Kentucky as well as around the world. The visit to Green River Distilling was among the best. I was unfamiliar with the distillery other than the O. Z. Tyler Bourbon which is (sadly) no longer produced. However, Green River produces a variety of excellent spirits on-site using locally grown corn. Our guide was well informed and patient with all of our questions. After tasting the samples at the end of the tour, we took several bottles of Yellow Bank, Kentucky 10 and Quarter Horse home with us to share with friends.
