Nice little park, lovely views of this fairly small reservoir in this picturesque wooded area. Mostly recommended nowadays for fishing boats (no combustion engines) that can be launched from the free public ramp. There is an appealing-looking, often crowded little sandy swimming beach, but I cannot recommend it. The water usually seems brackish and seaweed choked around the edges, especially when there hasn't been much rain. This combined with the frequent abundance of geese and their accompanying effluent doesn't inspire confidence in the water quality - or of this being a healthy swimming spot. Also, in recent years it appears that Furnce Lake is finally becoming a lot more well known to those large carpools and busloads of noisy urban groups, who of course have every right to be there, but can significantly change the atmosphere of quiet charm of so many rural public attractions like this one. Indeed, we have even been turned away on some hot summer days when attempting to bring our dogs to walk in the fields due to previously unheard of overcrowding of the park. There is the recent appearance of numerous, somewhat jarring posted signs for this formerly bucolic setting, some announcing video surveillance, some admonishing patrons not to have loud music, some attempting to impose fees on use of picnic areas, etc. These, plus the new large fences and gates with threatening signs to prevent unofficial access to the lake, would seem to attest to an apparent, typical rise in the occurrence of conflicts that goes with these types of...
Read moreEasy to find... Nice lake. Well taken care of area. BBQ, picnic tables available for a price... Beach entrance is 6$ on weekdays, which is pretty pricey. Beach isnt busy during weekdays.
The water used to be much cleaner, not sure if the warm weather or what's going on. There's soooo much seaweed and dirt that comes up when you go in the water.
All in all a decent lake beach... Wish they had showers tho to clean off the sand...
