The Devil's Slide Trail in Half Moon Bay offers breathtaking coastal views and a thrilling outdoor adventure for hikers, bikers, and nature enthusiasts alike. This converted stretch of Highway 1, now a pedestrian-friendly path, winds along dramatic cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The trail is impeccably maintained and offers a relatively easy hike with gentle inclines, suitable for all skill levels. Along the way, you'll encounter informational plaques that provide insights into the area's history, geology, and wildlife, enhancing the overall experience. One of the highlights of the Devil's Slide Trail is its panoramic vistas. From various viewpoints, you can admire sweeping ocean vistas, rugged cliffs, and, if you're lucky, spot migrating whales during the season. It's a photographer's paradise, offering plenty of opportunities to capture stunning coastal landscapes. The trail is also dog-friendly, making it a popular spot for pet owners looking to enjoy a scenic walk with their furry companions. Just be sure to keep your dogs on a leash and clean up after them to preserve the natural beauty of the area. Parking is convenient, with several lots available at either end of the trail, and amenities such as restrooms and benches are strategically placed along the route. Whether you visit during sunrise or sunset, the Devil's Slide Trail promises a memorable outdoor experience that showcases the rugged beauty of the Northern California coastline. Overall, the Devil's Slide Trail is a must-visit destination in Half Moon Bay, offering stunning views, historical significance, and a chance to reconnect with nature in a uniquely scenic setting.

Devil’s Slide is a section of road that was closed when a bypass tunnel was built. It is now a trail for pedestrians and cyclists. The paved trail (former road) is a moderate walk with some elevation changes. There are three spots along the trail with multiple benches to rest or take in the views of the coast. This location has two small lots with 25 spaces total, including one handicap space each. There are restrooms here and at the North lot. There is a traffic light here so you can safely exit either direction on highway 1.

Good parking. Initial part of the trail’s concrete with walk way that you share with bikes. Didn’t see any bikes though. Great views of the ocean and I’m always amazed whenever I see hills made of sedimentary rocks. After that you’ll get into the Pedro Point Headlands where the view gets even better. Coastal trees, coastal breeze, wild rabbits, wild flowers and more amazing views of the ocean. We didn’t hit the Arroyo trail loop as there seems to be a lot of overgrowth. Overall, this trail beat my expectations! Such a gem!
