Palm Beach Par 3 has gorgeous ocean views—and a staff that acts like they’re doing you a favor by letting you breathe the same air. I called ahead to ask about playing the back nine (you know, the half of the course that actually touches the ocean), and the woman on the phone practically hissed at me: “Who told you you could play the back nine?” Calm down, Carol. It’s a public golf course, not a Pentagon clearance level.
We did manage to get the back nine, but the real circus came at the end. While I was cleaning out the cart like a decent human being (which, again, isn’t my job), one of the employees came charging over, shoved my friend aside, and began rummaging through the rental clubs like we were trying to steal them. Then—get this—he yanks my personal 3-wood out of my bag and insists it was his. Not a question, not a double-check, just a full-blown declaration of ownership. It wasn’t.
And here’s the cherry on top: I tipped this guy $20. I handed over a twenty to someone who clearly thinks working at a public golf course entitles him to act like a TSA agent with a grudge. I really shouldn’t have. If we’re being honest, he deserves to live out his days bitterly policing rental clubs somewhere west of I-95, swearing he’s the hero of a job that no one asked him to take so seriously.
This place has potential, but it’s absolutely squandered by the kind of staff who confuse proximity to wealth with having any of their own. Save your money, your time, and your patience—unless, of course, you enjoy being treated like a criminal while overpaying for...
Read moreMy wife and I have played this course 10 times in the last 2 weeks and enjoyed every minute of it despite the tough winds. Austin Terico or Dave welcome you at the club drop off and you park 50' away. Except for today when we waited 5 minutes to start on the back 9, we always head straight to #1 tee and we were never held up at anytime. My wife and I usually play in 2 hours 10 minutes as a twosome.
This course is beautiful and tough too. I enjoy the black tees and my wife the blue and we are both 68 years old. She posted a 70 today because she hits the ball straight, unlike me. Raymond Floyd and his design team did an amazing job here on a beautiful site right on the ocean and inter coastal. Lots of beautiful palm trees and shrubbery. Bring some extra balls as you can go through a dozen if the wind is blowing and you hit some curveballs. Lots of water and heavy vegetation where you can't find anything. Surprisingly there are no hazards marked to permit a legal drop.
The greens are very big and undulating and are tough to read. They are on slow side but that is likely because of the extended period of hot weather. Cart service has bucket of 5 beers for $10, how good is that?
We love this course and we use GolfNow or Golf18 for some great deals. Such a pleasure to play here and enjoy the scenery, serenity and challenge of a well designed and maintained golf course. We have been playing here for over 7 years during our November vacation and we have never been...
Read moreGolf was beautiful. We did d have to wait quite often but n each tee but that is to be expected on a par 3 course. We did run into quite a bit of frustration in the pro shop and at AlFresco. In the pro shop we wanted for 15 minutes in purchasing a hat. The person taking care of us was pleasant but could not figure out how to manage a gift card and additional cash for a purchase. We waited so long we had to wait for a dining table. In trying to get a table I was told I could not be seated until my wife was present. She was in the pro shop involved in a purchasing struggle. One hostess was on the phone while another had a miserable attitude. The one on the phone should have stopped taking calls and helped out with seating. I am sure I was not the only frustrated one. Too bad. We were finally seated at a wonderful table, had a great lunch and quick service. Too bad about the in between experience. It almost ruined...
