I had something serious happen, prolonged chemical exposure from an unused chemistry kit given by the college, that resulted in months of me having respiratory symptoms, coughing and burning lungs, when I was in my room where the kit was stored up in the closet. For months I didn’t know the cause of the symptoms, but it was the kit. Once the kit was removed, the symptoms stopped altogether. This kit had been sent for an online chemistry class, but the class was dropped past the refund date. I had asked the professor, Churchill, if it was safe to store longer than a semester and he said yes. The kit itself and manufacturer website also said nothing about length of storage time. Having no use for the kit, I had it stored over a year. After realizing my symptoms were from the kit, informing 2 professors and wrapping the kit box in bags and taking it to the college as instructed, I also emailed the school board about this, but they ignored me. Before taking it to the campus, I had opened the box only a few seconds to take a picture of the material list (describes the box contents) to send to the professors (Churchill and Goodman) to get help so they knew what chemicals and items were being dealt with and could help explain my symptoms based on the items—at least, I thought they would explain, but they didn’t. I didn’t look at everything inside, as I was trying to close the box as fast as possible. Opening the box for only those few seconds made me cough and made my lungs burn for days. It was awful, and I was in shock and asked the professors frantically to explain what in the box would cause my symptoms, but NO ONE has ever answered me or explained ANYTHING, only dodged questions and said that I should be fine when I expressed concerns on how this could impact my or my family’s health. Because no investigation into the kit was done by the school, I would not recommend this school at all. If anyone involved wants to be dishonest, I can include the emails and text messages about this situation from the professors, message to the school board, as well as the report filed to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. I also contacted the company that makes the kits about what happened and asked for help but they provided no explanation or assistance either. This situation has caused me immense stress and trauma, and having no one explain what happened has only made it worse. I trusted the professors and everyone involved to explain the situation but they only ignored my questions if I asked for specifics on what happened in the kit, what in there caused my symptoms or what was done with the kit after I dropped it off at campus. If I had known they wouldn’t investigate what went wrong in the kit, I would have taken pictures of everything inside to show an unbiased third party, but at the time I was just terrified because I was coughing and my lungs were burning and I didn’t think the professors weren’t going to tell me anything. Whether there was a defect with one of the items in the kit or some other issue, I wanted to know, but I was given no explanation or even possible...
Read moreI started going to Moraine Valley Community College in the Fall of 2018. All the professors I had were wonderful and honestly deserve much better than what this college pays them. My father unexpectedly passed away July 31st 2019. Originally I did not receive any financial aid from this college, but after losing my dad I put in a loss of income appeal. I was denied without any explanation. I called and left a voicemail and never head back from Kathryn Lelo. Soon after my dad passed we moved and I went to change my address with the college and was told our new address was not in-district and I would have to pay out of district tuition for the spring semester of 2020. I told them I could not afford that (especially without receiving any aid) and they said they would look into my circumstances and never got back to me. The women’s name who was suppose to reach out to me is Rosa Perez. I had plans to graduate in the spring and now I am forced to switch community colleges for my last semester. This has proven to be very difficult as I already have to cope with losing my dad. I transferred to South Suburban College for the spring semester (as they are my new in-district community college) and was accepted into their honors program and am receiving two classes for free. My experience with them has not been perfect but at least I am receiving help from their staff as opposed to being ignored and misinformed. I would avoid Moraine Valley Community College unless you’re going to be in-district for the entire time you are going there and not need any financial aid. If something unexpected happens to you, don’t expect this college to care. All they care about is money. Their staff (excluding professors) are being payed to ignore students and...
Read moreFinancial aid office has to be the most disgusting foul office within a 2000 mile radius. Everybody in that office that I have spoken with has either been a liar, rude, misinforming, and the list goes on beyond belief. It's a huge battle just to get them to do their job correctly. Every time I need to go to that office each and every single one of them always and will always tell you a different response. If anything they have made my experience here at Moraine horrible. I just want to cry. I came here for education and the Financial aid office has made it nearly impossible to even attend. I have a file pending right now while everybody else has theirs processed. I've been calling to see why it hasn't came through and at first, no one would give me an awnser. Then I emailed them and they gave me information about another file I wasn't even talking about. I emailed again and then they had someone call me back and lied and said that there's a glitch in the system and they have no clue what's going on. So I called once more to see if they fixed the glitch and another woman said that there was absolutely no glitch and she doesn't know what I'm talking about. I need that file in order to continue my education and it looks like I won't be attending Moraine Valley anymore because of the Financial Aid office. I just can't believe how nasty and hard they are making it for some of us students. What a joke every single person is at...
