We tent camped here on our cross-country bicycle tour after reading on the parks department's website that there is a campground by the stadium. At the campground, there is a sign with the camp host's contact information, as well as a note about tent camping only being allowed under special permission from the police department (due to houseless people, as we learned). We never got in contact with the camp host, despite calling her several times. Same with parks department. We did talk with someone at the police department, and while initially no one knew there was a campground in the park, we eventually got permission to tent camp there. It was free, which was nice. The stadium had outlets that we used to charge our electronics and the main area of the park had restrooms and potable water. If you want to tent camp here - call the local police or go to the park on the northeast side of the bridge (the police said that's where people normally tent camp).
Other notes: There were two RVs present, but the people in them never talked to us/didn't seem to care that we were there. There was also a motion censored light that was very bright at night, but we managed to situate our tent out of its way. The gas station across the highway had limited food and the DQ serves only ice cream, so get food while...
Read moreCampground is not $12 as reflected on city website.
We drove out of our way to stay at this city park, we just needed a night of rest as we were passing through. At $12 it seemed like it was going to be worth it.
It's a very nice park and even on a midweek summer evening there were a lot of people out walking, fishing, lining up at the concession. Gravel road interior, 8 grass sites, all level. Picnic tables, WE, looks like dump by bath house but we didn’t use it. Very quiet, lots of birds. There was not obvious way to make a payment and we called the number posted to no way to leave a message.
Around 9p a guy pulled up - hard to believe he would be associated with the city in any way based on the vehicle, his personal hygiene, dress, etc. - and asked for the $20 camp fee. When I asked about the $12 listed on the website, "oh yeah that went up - you know gas prices and stuff." There's no way we were going to give him cash, so we wrote a check.
Later when I tried to call someone at the city park website to at least give someone a heads up about updating their website....of course it's impossible to get a live human being. The park itself is nice, but we wouldn't...
Read moreIt is a quiet park, where you can enjoy the wildlife right out your front door. A deer family, we were able to watch. My granddaughter loved the fact she got to see the deer. In the front are several playgrounds for the kids. Plus, the lakes where the geese roam as well as swim. The sites have water, electricity, a burn pit, a grill, and a picnic table. The only downfall is there is no septic, only a dumping station. However, they do have showers and a restroom that the campers can use. For the price, you can't beat it at $75 a week. This is the reason I gave...
