Great park!!! This is my favorite dog park in the area. The entire dog park is the size of about 3 football fields (if I had to estimate). It is broken up into 4 separate sections. All 4 sections are off leash. The park consists of 90% grass and 10% dirt.
1 - Small dogs get their own little section which includes obstacle courses. This is probably the smallest section in the park. To be completely honest, I've never been in that section because my dog is 65lbs.
2 - This section is pretty much identical to the small dog section (with an obstacle course). However, it is probably 3 to 4 times larger than the small dog section. This section is for dogs of all sizes
3 - This section is also for dogs of all sizes. It is also the largest section of the park. There isn't an obstacle course in this section. It's just a massive space for the guys to run to their heart's content.
PLEASE NOTE: Sections 2 and 3 are opened alternatively. If section 2 is opened, section 3 is close. If section 3 is opened, section 2 is closed. They close off one of the sections for about a month and alternate. This allows the grass to take a little break from all the poop and dogs running on it.
4 - This is a section that is narrow that mimics a walking/hiking trail. This section connects section 2 and 3 of the park.
The only bad thing I can think of is the lack of a water fountain in the park. So, be prepared to bring a gallon of water with you. Most of the regulars do bring jugs of water for everyone to share.
Most dogs at the park are very well socialized. However, there can be a bad apple once in a blue moon. But the only way to turn a bad apple into a good apple is to socialize him/her even more. Dominance isn't a problem in the park. Aggression isn't a problem either. During the warmer months, I would go around 6pm every week night and stay in the park for an hour. His is when I get some reading done or reply to emails while my buddy gets to play. The park's peak hours are from 5pm - 7pm. Everyone gets off work and heads to the park. If you're there enough, you'll get to know who the regulars. All the regulars...
Read moreThis is 3 dog parks in 1: 1st, for small dogs, a separate fenced-in area as large as many regular dog parks with obstacle courses for agility training, benches for weary owners, waste bags provided with adjacent trash cans for recycling or garbage, choice of flat or hilly terrain. A fenced-in natural wooded area where dogs can exercise alone or with other dogs climbing rocks and fallen trees, or 1 of 2 large fenced fields rotated to grow new grass. Dogs often run in groups or long lines providing plenty of exercise. Mostly or puppies or young adult dog, using their excess energy. Assorted breeds, ages, & sizes of dogs with friendly helpful owners who monitor their pets, minimizing fights. I always clean up after my dog yet too many don't, making a visit unpleasant if you don't watch your step. Seems no authorities monitor the Park. Plastic bags are provided. No one can create beautiful serenity of the Wantage dog park, yet could water be made available as in Wantage? Dogs and owners appreciate it for filling tubs or small wading pool, & refreshment for overheated dogs to drink. This would make the park close 2nd to Wantage,...
Read moreCLOSED! Went to the dog park this morning and the smaller side was closed. Everyone took the dogs into the larger area where it was open. I have two five pounds dogs, they were fine but definitely would have been less stressed in the smaller side
A gentleman bought his smaller dog in, and the dog was knocked off of one of the large agility towers by a bigger dog (theyre completely unsafe)
The dog either broke or dislocated his leg, the dog was crying loudly and had to be rushed to the emergency vet.
I feel absolutely broken because i had witnessed it, BUT it 100% would not have happened if the smaller side was open.
This was my second time there and i honestly don't think i'll be back because seeing as dog get injured where it could've been prevented really upsets me. The least they can do is post...
