The accessible beach is very small in length, no more than 50 ft wide that is accessible, and dirty, with trash visible. There's obviously no groundskeeper tending to the beach, daily. The grounds of the beach park are not well-maintained. Signage is faded, old & dated. The grills are not in good upkeep either. There is a playground that is far-removed from the beach & a picnic shelter with many tables. On the beach there are 2 volleyball nets. For those who give this beach a 4 or 5 star rating, this must be the first time they ever saw a beach in their life. The shipyard to the West & the Chevron refinery to the East both take away from the ambiance of what a beachy atmosphere should be like, with this "industrial" visible presence to the East & West of the beach. If you want a TRULY, NICE & BEAUTIFUL beach go to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, where you have un-restricted access to miles of beach; and not just a short 50 ft. of accessible beach like here...
Read moreI Love this Park because of it's size, parking area, and location! This park has that play area for the kids on one end, restrooms within a reasonable distance from the kids play area, but they can be a hike from the opposite end of the park or the beach. There is a nice paved walking trail, with some exercise stations along the way, there is a Splash Pad for the Kids, there's plenty of seating, Pic-Nic tables, a Big Pavilion, many a beautiful tree, and the beach less than 25 Yards from some of those trees, & Pic-Nic'n areas, last but not least is the Public Pier you can walk out on....
The only downside to this Park is access by vehicle, as 3 of the roads around it are one way, with the largest parking area being on one that really should allow two way traffic, as it is already a two lane Road. My favorite part is simply enjoying one of the shady spots just across the street from the Beach, the view...
Read moreThis was our first visit to the Gulf area, and we LOVED it. We went on a windy day, so the water was choppy, but I hear its usually more like a smooth lake. (We had a lot of fun in the waves though) Either way, the water is waist deep for as far as you can walk, and the bottom is sandy and smooth. There is a really long dock to walk or fish on, and the park itself is so much fun for kids. There is a great splash pad and a huge playground. Also a bunch of picnic tables and pavilions for shade. We have a 6 year old son and he had the best day ever. Pack a lunch and enjoy your day! Follow the road down to see some incredible Naval and Coast Guard ships too... Definitely worth a stop if you are...
