Wow I haven't been here in a couple years and boy does it look nice. The trees are maturing nice and started to produce some nice size shade patches to escape the mid day sun. The groundskeepers are doing an amazing job here. This is a great park to do just about anything. My favorite is laying on the grass taking a nap on the shade on a warm summer day. There is only one thing missing and I am totally surprised no one has started an annual event. Paso Robles needs and Barney schwartz is the place to start holding the annual soap box derby races!!!! That's right soap box derby baby. I can only think of one other street in town that would be better. I am safety could be an issue with that spot though because the speed produced from that road could be intense. Have you figured out what road I am referring to? You could say it's Creston road but if you started on at the top of shadow canyon I am not sure you could make the corner onto creston. So there's the challenge who's going to be the first to go down the hill? I already watched my some on a skateboard ho so fast he got speed wobbles and biffed it bad. Better bring your helmet and pads. Oh and don't forget to upload your videos of how your experience turns out. It's gonna be fun I...
Read moreThis park has a few playgrounds. The two at the bottom of the hill were recently replaced with equipment that's bright, fun and offers a fairly diverse set of play structures. Among them are some really great nature-inspired tree stump steps, large boulders connecting the climbing decks and a fun ring twister to stand on and spin. The kids were also excited to try out the cascade climber, which features foothold cutouts on a series of panels to encourage kids to climb up, down and sideways.
I also love the small details in the craftsmanship of the play equipment, like the subtly placed fossil imprints of bugs and fish on the climbing rocks and a little carved mouse nesting in a knothole on top of the hand-painted log tunnel.
I take off a star because there are ants everywhere at Barney Schwartz, so you can't really lay a blanket on the grass or bring food.

Barney Schwartz Park is one of the loveliest parks we've visited in the area! The landscaping is absolutely beautiful—lush green grass, well-maintained flower beds, and thoughtfully placed trees that offer just the right amount of shade. The whole space feels clean, peaceful, and inviting.
We especially love the natural setting and wildlife. It's not uncommon to spot ducks by the pond, birds chirping in the trees, and even the occasional bunny hopping through the grass. It’s a treat for kids and adults alike!
This park is truly family-friendly. There are great playgrounds, walking paths, picnic areas, and plenty of space for kids to run around safely. Whether you’re planning a family outing, a casual stroll, or just want a serene place to relax, Barney Schwartz Park has something for everyone.
Highly recommend for locals and...
