If you like Halloween decorating, then Codorus is the place for you to come the weekend before and round that time. You'll have to book many months or years in advance to get a spot. You can go all out on decorations and the park festivities; this is a big fund raiser for their friends group as well as for the community. They sell tickets to an area of the park where people book sites (120+) from year-to-year to participate in the festivities. I think the one fellow told me they sell out on the tickets to drive thru the park and trick-or-treat; they do this over a weekend both nights and they get upto 1,600 kids coming through. That meant for him over $400 dollars in candy; This thing is big and we stayed here the weekend before so thankfully we didn't have to participate, especially not to the tune of $400.
Now for those of us that would like to come other times of the year, it's a great campground; spots are "pretty" level as campgrounds go, not the worst and not the best. Electric was good, water pretty much the same. Spots were long enough for the 35-foot "A" and our Envoy. All the customary community amenities are available within 15 to 20 minutes in Manchester. If fishing is your thing the lake is pretty large and has all the customary lake fish for PA., There are hiking/Biking trails/roads which we didn't use. Our target-stay attraction was Gettysburg, we went a day and a half; it's under 20 miles or 40 minutes. It’s definitely a must see.
We'd come again, just not at Halloween or in the fall or at least when the acorns were dropping; they drive out dog crazy and nobody really slept...
Read moreWe camped at Codorus State Park for the first time in August. We really love this Campground! There is a wide variety of sites so finding one that you like should not be difficult, there are some in wide-open park-like settings, and some that are treed. For the most part we didn't notice any that really seem to be right on top of each other, but we think the site we got was the best one in the park. We were in 138, which was huge and had nice open flat areas for the tent, there were actually three spots that we could have put it on, and lots of trees to hang our hammocks and options for our tarps, but there was no chance of rain at all that weekend so we did not hang tarps. Those trees were bare however until very far up, so they did not afford any privacy, but we definitely were not on top of the people next door anyway so it was just how we like it. There is some hiking, not strenuous climbing mountains hiking, mostly easy, and the lake was the biggest attraction for me. We rented the biggest pontoon boat for 2 hours, about $150, and had a great time. Campground bath houses were very clean, nice hot showers with great showerhead that stayed on without pushing a button. Our site was close to the bath, a trail head, and field where we lay in the sun and played frisbee. We are...
Read moreComprehensive review: Codorus is a boater's delight with many small peninsulas that jut into the lake. As a result, there are boat launches all around the lake. Or maybe you want to keep your boat at the park, and you can do that. No boat? Stop at the rental center. You can rent all sizes up to some so big, you may see yourself as Captain Stubing. Bring that white hat and white sailing jacket and welcome your 15 guests aboard. There are great camp sites and one of the best camp host sites I've seen at a park. There's a pool near the campgrounds, which is good because there's no swimming in the lake, but people can't help but wade into the lake a little as it's so pretty. The park has two hiking only trails, but if you count the horseback trails and the mountain bike trails that you can also hike, it adds up to over 19 miles. Codorus's disc gold course is challenging to the point that the 2005 state championship was held here. There's also a scuba diving area called Sinsheim Cove. With all its coves and plenty of picnic tables, there's no reason you can't find a private spot to look at the lake or go fishing. This park even has a gift shop. Definitely a weekend worth of fun.
