I stayed the weekend at the Desert Tortoise Campground, campsite 174, which does not include power or water. It was absolutely wonderful! Enough space between the next campsite. Comes with a fire pit area, picnic table with shading and a dedicated parking spot with area for another vehicle if needed. I was pickup camping, but the nearest neighbor had a fairly large fifth wheel, so its safe to assume most any size RV will work fine in these spots.
The site I camped was directly across from a bathroom facility with showers that was maintained very nicely, very clean. I was close to the north east part of the lake, had to walk down a short hill path to get to it and it was relaxing to set up a chair and just lounge with the water as my view.
Of course one of the great pleasures of camping is the nighttime by the fire, so its cool that the park provides a space for grilling that can also be used for burning a fire throughout the night. Love sitting around in the pitch black night making s'mores and checking out the stars!
Overall, great place to relax and get some cool sightseeing in - of course the lake water is the main attraction, but I also got to check out the wild burros roaming all around, saw some large birds, and even an unwanted skunk lol. They also have some interesting events hosted by the rangers which I will return to take part in next visit. This is a must go, zero complaints! Next time I plan to camp closer to...
Read moreI was really excited to come to this place. The photos and reviews made it seem amazing. I mean water in Arizona sounds like the place to be. But I think the moral of the story do desert things when in the desert don’t look for water. First off there is a Huge cell tower near the playground and the upper camping area. Sure it’s nice to have service in the area, but so close to the attractions I’d do without service. So I didn’t take the kids to play at the playground. The discovery center was also closed (but near cell tower) so we wouldn’t have done it. After driving around for a bit we finally found where you can park on the “beach” and go to the lake. The port a potties and huge dumpsters are already unpleasant but ignoring those we drove on to the “beach” from the images looking like sand it it more dust and rocks. The ground wasn’t comfortable so bring chairs. The water not really swimable. It would have been nice to have kayak or paddle board we didn’t. So we were left to wading. So much trash in and near the water. Disgusting. People need to clean up after themselves. Also a little nature service announcement don’t feed the ducks. I thought by now people knew not to feed animals in nature, but not hear so the ducks were being fed so that takes away from the fun of nature as well. All in all don’t waste a day here if you at limited in time. If you are local sorry this is one of your minimal water options to...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our visit to the park. We stayed in the Roadrunner lake side for 2 weeks, one week each site. Site 30 next to host site and bathroom. The bathroom traffic was noisy as each time the door opens the thud sound reverberate into the RV. And 25 was a pull through about 50 feet from the bathroom with a back window view of the lake. No shade or table cover on this site. It faces the road so there is no real privacy but better view of the sunsets. Sites on the lake side with views of the lake have very good views of the water. The opposite side of this loop is the land side there are a couple sites down on the west side that are not paved but are much more private and great views of the sunsets.
The loops mentioned above wil be closed Jul - ?? In 2022 for a complete re do of the water and electricity and paving of the sites.
There are some fun hikes in the park we enjoyed a few of them as well as kayaking. We drove to the north side of the park and found a great hike to the high point in the park as well as fun kayaking in this area.
Used the showers, they are clean with the exception of the shower curtains one was moldy. The shower heads are no good, you either get a body piercing water stream or a light spray that ends up too cold to be in. As well as they are timed shower, you have to press the button to get water and it lasts about 45 seconds.
We camped at Lake Pleasant Regional Park in a...
