I have spent a weekend at the Spooky Nook each of the past two years for a volleyball tournament.
Parking can be touchy as the main lot fills quickly which requires you to park across the river and shuttle over. Very cool to offer free shuttles but not great in cold/snowy weather. It's worth a shot to check the main lot for spots as people come and go. Parking is inexpensive($5 per day). The biggest issue is that people are dumb and park in the isle ways and pedestrian walkways. I like to help these people fold their side mirrors in so that I can more easily walk past their vehicle. Spooky Nook employees did not seem bothered when I told them about people parking where they shouldn't.
Seating is also....yeah. In 2024 each court had two sets of cold metal bleacher seats, one for each team. This past weekend(2025 President's weekend) they only had one bleacher on each court and it was only on one side of the court so one team had no seating near their team other than the floor or camping chairs. So yes, bring a camping chair and/or a padded bleachers seat. There is additional seating on the 2nd floor that overlooks the courts that is often overlooked. Unfortunately the courts and seating is packed so tightly together that navigating through the playing areas is difficult. People are constantly walking in front of you while you are trying to watch your kid play. There are hallways that will take you almost all the way around the outside of the courts but once in the gym walking anywhere is annoying.
Unlike a lot of these tournament locations the Spooky Nook had a food court with a good amount of seating. Unfortunately the cost of food is a little more expensive than some other sports venues. Chips and candy in vending machines are easily twice the cost of any normal machine. The food court has some decent options but many things just do not seem to be worth the cost. My daughter got a "protein pack" from the grab n go for $8 +tax that contained 4 club crackers, 4 grapes, six small cubes of cheese and 8-10 small pepperoni slices. The grapes were soft and turning brown. Pizza looks like a deal at $18 for a whole cheese pie but it looks like frozen Sysco crust(I didn't try it). A simple ice cream cookie sandwich is $7. And they allow no outside food and drinks so it's a racket. This is the main issue keeping me from 4 stars(although their $4 French fries are killer. Some sort of twisty steak fry that is crazy crispy).
The staff is abundant and fairly friendly. There is an on-site arcade to keep the siblings and dads entertained and a small bar with 6-8 beers on tap(I forget) but I recall there being Bell's Two Hearted and a full liquor selection to boot.
Overall not a bad sports venue but could be really cool with some adjustments, like a water bottle filling station !

Read moreThis weekend my son had a baseball tournament in the 12u division. This organization is supposed to be responsible for making sure birth certificate match to the age the coaches sign their group up in the division they play in. But due to the error of this organization, my sonâs team played a 13u team in a 12u division. This is dangerous for those who know baseball. Another team had to pay $100 to put a dispute in stating the team whom we played had a 13 year old boy. Came to find out 8 boys from this team were 13 year olds and playing in the 12u division. This is an error that should have been prevented before the tournament started had this organization done their job. Oh yeah, they apologized for their error. The most shocking of response coming out of the staff are âso you know how many teams we have to verify?â And âyou will have to contact your representativeâ. What type of management is this to ask the first question as an excuse for not being able to verify and review all the playerâs birth certificates....this organization is in the business to have tournaments and game competitions right?? The fall season is considered low amount of teams. What happens in the summer of high season baseball? Then many teams can be screwed over where there is unfair competition with different age groups. Then hearing itâs up to the team to contact their representative, definitely has bad management and reporting of issues to let upper management. How will upper management know what can be prevented and how to do better? It should be the staff member who discovered the issue to contact the representative and notify the upper management and then sports force management with representative to contact and notify the teams of this error and how they will prevent this from happening again. There were only 5 teams total in this division. Is sports force in Sandusky in the business for the children as their #1 priority or is it just to make the money and say screw the children? This tournament was definitely not fair to the 12u teams at all....parents and grandparents drive a distance to watch what they believe is a fair competition from this organization, but turns out the opposite. I suggest the teams who played this illegal team should have free admission for the team members family for at least 2 tournament weekends and a personal apology in person from the upper management. Trust is easy to lose but hard to gain. You have...
Read moreWe were there today 7/12/25 for a wrestling tournament. Overall the building is nice and a well kept outside area. People were parking along the road rt 6. Which you take to get to cedar pt., in ditches & where ever they could find a place. $20 to get in per person. Inside was 85 degrees with athletes trying to wrestle, that was at the entrance I can only imagine in the far corner or middle and yes we had an app on our phone that told us the temp. My grandkids sat playing on the floor sweat running down their faces. Not much seating for this big of an event. I Think had they had a cut off for the amount of people that could enter to compete & or the amount of spectators it may have been ok. Even with the big ass fans running it didnât help a lot it just mainly moved the hot air around. I go to Cedar Pt every week & Im impressed with the up keep of everything and was excited to have my granddaughter having an event there so I could see it. I was so disappointed. I can honestly say if itâs the same next year we wonât be back and heard that from others as well. Wanted to give an updated. Attended again today and although a little warm by afternoon it wasnât near like yesterday but I would say there were 50% people if not even less. If your mat happens to be on outside perimeter there is a bleacher at each mat if your inside it is one longer bench. People still had to park in grass or on the road. But facility it self is nice. Didnât...
