A review of an historic state park is tough, what are the main points to consider? Is it worth stopping in considering the significance of the site? How accessible are the artifacts and how authentic is the historical landmark. These are but a few of the items on my list.

Considering the aforementioned, this location gets a "it's okay" three star rating. I found the reconstruction of the elements a bit out of context and inaccurate. I do think the pioneer ranches are very significant in shaping California, and I found this site worth stopping by to visit, but I didn't find the historical documentation very informative. Instead, the park posts quotes from the actual inhaplbitants of the site. While these are relevant, I believe they are supporting details that would accompany better documentary literature that described each room and historical reference.

As an aside, I found the park staff at this location too awkwardly aggressive in their collection of fees. The attendant on site was so persistent in her need to collect the $3 I witnessed four visitors turn...

This is the old home of one of California's first missions. They have a great free museum, a really nice creek area and a large picnic area that is cool and tree covered. A really nice place to stop on the up to Sonoma county and wine tasting in Sonoma. It is just a few miles off the beaten path and worth the stop over. Did i mention you may have to pay for parking? The museum area is free and accept donations. Handicap accessible and pet friendly, check out this...

Brings back lots of memories it's wonderful for young ones to go hike on and learn history about all the acreage and what the beautiful adobe building was utilized for and what happened on all that land. The bathrooms are not wheelchair accessible but they put porter potties outside of the bathrooms that are. No bicycles are allowed on the trails but dogs are okay on a leash. They do have a bike rack at beginning of the...

Participated in Living History Day this year, embodying 1840 Mexican California as the Californios living at Vallejo's compound. Long-time volunteers and new volunteers demonstrated Californio crafts, sports, and ways of life. One veteran volunteer cooked food for all 30 volunteers, a traditional Californio meal on the open fireplace at the adobe. A busy, wonderful day! Last Saturday in May!

The docent led my children and I around the rancho house and gave us incredible information about its history. I appreciate the love and patience the docent showed my shy, autistic kids. Bring food to have a picnic at the stunning grove in the entrance. We went in the fall and the scenery was straight out of a travel magazine! Support your local parks 🙂
