I cannot say enough good things about GSF. I am so annoyed with the quality and freshness of grocery store produce-including Hole Foods (not a typo). At Green String you can buy only what's locally grown, and it's always fresh-sometimes it's not the most tender (my only small complaint). On Saturdays and Sundays, a local baker delivers the best bread I have ever tasted not from my own oven. The baker obviously cares about the product as do the owners and employees of GSF. The produce prices are fair but somewhat enigmatic. For example, recently string beans were $6/lb and peaches were $1.5/lb. The prices are fair, and there are a few items that excel: the baby broccoli-it's more like broccolini- was recently $2/lb and no huge stalks that are committed to the compost. They have pardron peppers-hard to find elsewhere that, grilled with EVOO and garlic, transport me to a tapas bar in Madrid. They also sell frozen beef, organic cheeses, WW flour, honey, vinegar, canned items, farm fresh eggs (at 60 cents each), flowers and herbs.
