I meaaaaaan....yeah it's technically a shipwreck and you can maneuver to get some pretty sweet photos, especially post editing. I will say though that I would not drive here just for this. If you're coming to Cypress Tree Tunnel, Pt Reyes hikes, the lighthouse, and other surrounding attractions; sure it's worth a quick stop.
Be kind and visit some local shops and grab a snack and a drink at the convenience store because their parking lot is the best parking for this. Also they have giant cookies there!
I feel like it's not quite a tourist trap, but not quite a tourist attraction either. I will say my out of town guest enjoyed it much more than I did and tried to hop onto the lil islet to get up close for photos. There was a lil more water and mud than he bargained for, so that didn't happen, but I did get a fun shot for him.
Super cute town tho! Would definitely go back to eat at the spot across the street (only open for lunch on weekends) and see a few other things in...
Read moreThe front half of the boat is still there and looking good. The back half was burned when someone decided it was a good idea to light steel wool in fire and spin it on a wooden boat. That said, it's still photogenic. Someone stated it was a "fake" shipwreck. That's incorrect. The original boat owner bought it as a fixer upper, and ran it aground there to fix it up. However, like many fix up projects he never finished. The land was eventually sold to a wetlands restoration for, who slated the boat for removal. However, a group of local photograghers lobbied to save it, so it was left there. That said, it's a neat site to see, even though someone selfishly destroyed the back half after they set it on fire. Just remember, if you visit have common sense: fire + wood is bad. Take care so the remaining parts will still be there for people to enjoy. Even though it's not a true "Shipwreck," it's still awesome...
Read moreIf you turn left on the road off of State Route 1, you'll find some free parking spaces in the residential neighbourhood. The area is kind of muddy, and you might have to cross a few streams to get photos from different angles of the shipwreck. If you have boots you wear for snow, or rain boots, I recommend you wear those as they are waterproof, you'll wish you did. Make sure you go during low tide or the boat might be partially underwater. This boat has really broken down since Feb 2016 when I was there for the first time. This recent trip in December 2021 really showed how fast the ship broke down since that fire in 2016. Hurry and go see it...
