Great hike!! Incredible topography with so many ups and downs. Very helpful map and directions online! The veiws were breathtaking! Even the gas line is pretty! I suggest not taking anything that you are not 100% sure is a spur trail to an outlook tho. My dad and i lost abt an hour looking for Chimney Top and had a close encounter with a rattler! There is a relatively flat place to a couple hundred yards from the parking lot to pitch your tent, but you should probably stay clear of it it unless you are in a true pickle. Its on like a mound, and the whole mound felt like it was rotting- i saw abt 4 brown Recluse, so pls be careful!!!! (Also, the road is visible, and nobody wants that) One final thing, the only water source was 5% water, 95% leaves, pls be a respectful hiker and put the wire mesh back over the top. But overall an amazing hike and an unforgettable experience!!

Shale underfooting on the lower portion, and relentless scattered rocks elsewhere keeps you constantly vigilant. The false summit was worth it. Cool cliffs and great valley views. According to GPS, there was more trail that would eventually lead to Chimney Top. But I wasn't sure where or when, so I eventually turned around. The descent was faster, but hazardous due to steepness and rocks. Be sure to bring trekking poles. It's a...

The rock formations can be reached by turning right at around 3 miles in from the north end of the trail. The spur trail is not labeled, but some kind folks piled a couple of little rocks in chimney-like formations. It's quite a workout, but bring water and push yourself, and it's really worth it. The rock formations may look steep, but they are actually pretty climbable, so try to reserve some strength for a...
