I will mention upfront that the hours vary based on daylight hours. So in the summer they are open earlier and later. In the winter, hours are 7 or 8 am to 5 or 6 pm.
The garden illustrates (using Bible verses and sculptues) the most significant events of Jesus's life. It is very quiet, relaxing and calm. Most of the noise comes from either the traffic on 40th street or the fountain on the east side of the garden. There are some benches to sit on.
There is a small chapel on the grounds. The nuns who live there are always sweet, helpful and friendly. You can buy books in the chapel.
Be forewarned that the entrance road is unpaved and the garden path is dirt, so wear good walking shoes. The path is wide enough for wheelchairs and double strollers, and is fairly well packed down. I haven't tested it to see how well it would work though.
This is a fantastic place to relax or meditate, especially around Easter. It's one of my favorite journaling...
Read moreOne of the most peaceful, Spirit-filled places I have ever seen. The Lutheran nuns here are gracious, kind, and full of the love of the Lord. Don't miss the prayer garden which highlights the 14 stations of the cross-- take the time to linger alone or with a friend and dwell in the presence of the Holy Spirit, and if you're fortunate, one of the sisters might even come and talk with you or pray with you. This truly is one of the most special places I have ever visited, and for me, it magnified the hope eternal that we have in Jesus Christ. If you desire to abide intimately with the Lord, this is a wonderful place you do not want to miss.
The chapel in the center of the property also has a little bookstore where you can make a nominal donation and pick up some materials that will explain some of the history, devotions, and theology of the Evangelical...
Read moreThis is a quiet place of solitude and sanctuary in the desert. Nestled in the Paradise Valley foothills, these grounds are maintained by a small mission of Swedish nuns. Paths are arranged for taking time for inner reflection and peace. Very little of the natural desert has been disturbed in this place, and animals can often be seen intimately as they rush about with their daily chores. A fresh water spring fountain is there to reward your inner/outer journey with perhaps the most wonderful currency of the desert: a drink of cool water. I have come here often for white space, inspiration, and to enjoy the blooming seasons of this desert labyrinth. The paths depict the turning points in the life of Jesus of Nazareth as a tool for meditation and reflections. Nothing is being sold here. This place is true holy ground, for everyone of any background,...
