I had the pleasure of living at Heinz Lofts for a wonderful 2-year period, and I must say it was an exceptional experience in every way. Our unit was simply fantastic! We were lucky to be in one of the updated apartments with wood floors and sleek steel-looking appliances. The most mesmerizing aspect was the breathtaking view of the river, the iconic 16th st Bridge and Downtown Pittsburgh seen through giant red windows. It truly felt like living in a dream, with the lush green hills on the other side of the river. One minor concern with these enormous windows, we noticed they lacked screens to keep bugs at bay. As a pet owner, we had to be cautious and would not recommend opening them without proper precautions. Despite this small issue, the captivating light and vistas from the windows more than compensated for it.
The architecture of the building is nothing short of impressive and unique. Every time we had guests over, they couldn't help but compliment the building's design and the industrial atmosphere. It truly added to the overall charm of the place and made us feel proud to call this historic building our home.
The location of Heinz Lofts is an absolute gem! Being right by the river and having access to the trail is one of the best things about this place. The proximity to downtown and the stadiums made it so convenient for us to explore the city's vibrant scene. During spring, the trail became our go-to spot, where we would take leisurely walks amidst the blooming pink buds and adorable baby geese – it was simply magical.
The amenities at Heinz Lofts added immense value to our living experience. The gym was spacious and well-equipped, offering a good selection of exercise equipment, even though they might not have been the newest models. Nevertheless, it catered to all our fitness needs perfectly. The business center was another highlight for us. I frequently booked the room to work with clients or for important meetings, and the reservation process through the management office was smooth and hassle-free. Summertime was particularly delightful at Heinz Lofts. We made use of the two grills and ample seating spots to have lovely outdoor gatherings with friends and family. The community room with a pool table provided an excellent space to entertain guests and spend enjoyable evenings together.
Our experience with the management, both the old and new management teams, were positive. Fae, the new manager, is an absolute delight to interact with. She's not just professional but also a genuinely kind and helpful person. Whenever we needed assistance or had any questions, she was always there to lend a hand. And I must mention Tate as well – another remarkable member of the management team, who was incredibly prompt in responding to emails and making sure everything was taken care of efficiently. The maintenance staff, led by Jason, deserves special recognition too. Most of our maintenance requests were taken care of within 24 hours. We only had one major pluming issue during our residency and we were offered to use a guest suite for the night our unit did not have any water.
Overall, living at Heinz Lofts was an unforgettable experience. The combination of industrial history and architecture, superb location by the river, stunning views, and the friendliest management and maintenance team made it truly feel like a home. I can't recommend this place enough for anyone looking for a top-notch living experience in Pittsburgh. Living here was an experience we'll cherish forever, and we're grateful for the memories we made in this wonderful community. If you're looking for a perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and scenic beauty, Heinz Lofts is the...
Read moreIt amazes me how they are even able to get away calling it a “loft space” when it is no such thing. That should have been my first warning.
Because of the building shape the majority of the “bedrooms” don’t have a window that faces outside. There is a fluorescent light in the hallways that are on the bedroom windows that never gets turned off! The exterior widows to the living areas are old and drafty. Old kitchen cabinets that have a “new” coat of paint on them. Basic grade tiles, and basic contractor grade bathroom stalls are just some of the issues plaguing this building.
In addition the the aging finishes for standards from almost 20 years ago, paper thin walls that you can hear your neighbors conversations, all kinds of smells in the common spaces, sub par amenities, and frequent mechanical and plumbing breakdowns, they have managed to assemble hands down the worst management I’ve ever encountered after 29 years of being in business.
Trying to get any repairs accomplished was a nightmare. Even thinking prior to my previous renewal when the building converted to new management that all of the issues would end, it only made things worse. I was really hoping that APG Living and Alterra Properties would improve under new management. Frequent calls had to be made to fix simple maintenance issues. What should have taken 1 call and 1 visit often turned into multiple calls and multiple visits. It felt as if I was bothering them and they were doing me a favor by showing up! It was quite remarkable, considering how over the top nice they were at the start.
The end came when one of my guests was falsely accused of making noise by throwing a party when nobody was even staying there! I was told that the unit exceeded a certain decibel level. Building management never bothered to investigate the situation or just didn’t feel like dealing with a complaining neighbor, so instead of approaching me, the decided to pacify the loudest voice without investigating the matter whatsoever.
After investigating myself and attempting to work with management like normal people do, they were having no part of it. They could have easily verified with outside video surveillance or a building key log but they were having no part of it. Maybe it’s just me but it seems like it would be easier to work with a reasonable minded always on time paying tenant as a better business approach. Rather than to jump to conclusions and keep fining new people. Then all of a sudden saying that I cannot run my short term rental business anymore, and was not authorized to do so after it was agreed upon up front, it being in my lease, they just decided to make it difficult to do business and say it’s not allowed? Ok, so for 3+ years it was okay, and with no notice, now you just decide that your story is going to be… it’s just not allowed? No integrity whatsoever.
As for the person next door to my unit…. You complained that someone should not run their business next to neighbors who live there as a full time resident? You seem to have no issues running your professional online complaint business 24/7 working from there, making everyone you come across miserable. While most “neighbors” communicate in a civilized manner when there are issues, you just decide that you are going to attack everybody you come across, complain online to management, and never answer the door, pick up the phone, or return a call to communicate? It’s okay for you to run your business there? The world needs less coward keyboard warriors.
Your money and sanity will go further in newer more...
Read moreI fortuitously landed at The Heinz Lofts when I was looking for an apartment, after moving to Pittsburgh in the fall of 2006. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I made because 17 years later, I am still a resident of The Heinz Lofts— my home. In many ways, The Heinz Lofts, to me, represents the renaissance that is the story of modern-day Pittsburgh, a city that is constantly reinventing itself.
One of the things I love about the place is that it is a modern apartment complex ensconced in historic buildings that highlight the industrial history of Pittsburgh. Heinz 57 is one of the iconic brands of Pittsburgh, and much as the company barely produces much of anything in Pittsburgh, I love that I live in a campus of buildings that represent that history. It’s often the first thing I tell people about Pittsburgh.
As a city person, I absolutely love that I rarely drive— even if I have a car in a fully covered, dry and warm garage— because I can walk into most of the areas where I work, play, and spend my social time. Just a stroll over the 16th Street Bridge, gets me into the historic Strip District, where I can buy fresh meat, spices and vegetables, and hang out with friends at a bar or restaurant.
I can also walk into Downtown Pittsburgh within 10 or 15 minutes, taking either city streets or I can get there by simply taking a stroll along the Allegheny River trail right in front of our buildings. The same is true of the central North Side neighborhood restaurants, stores and drug stores.
If you’re a person who enjoys the activity of city life, you won’t find a better placed location than the Heinz Lofts, which is “Downtown adjacent” — far enough outside the hustle and bustle of Downtown, and yet close enough that you can easily get into Downtown, and if you walk like me, don’t even have to worry about parking. The Pittsburgh Regional Transit buses to the North Side to Downtown, and even all the way to the South Side, stop right in front of our buildings. All you have to do is familiarize yourself with the schedule.
Also: as someone who has lived in this campus for 17 years, I have seen a couple of the property management groups that have overseen the campus and I can say our current managers are by far the best. Whereas we may be one of the older loft-style living apartments in a restored/ adapted historic building, we have almost all the amenities one would expect in a modern apartment building.
I can say so much more but the fact that I have lived here, without many issues for 17 years now, is an indication of my love for this place. If you’re looking for a decent place to live, which has lots of character and is convenient to Downtown and other neighborhoods, look no further than The...
